Both players were playing at a very high level. It's amazing that Matsushita could defend against the excellent timing of Persson's hard drives.

パーソンはカット打ち、上手いね。この頃にはワルドナーよりも動けたし、バックハンドも多彩で素晴しいプレーだった。ドライブ、ストップ、ミドル、前に落とす、自由自在。対する松下もカットの円熟味が増して、この頃のカットは渋谷と張るのではないかな。攻撃の威力は相変わらずなのだが、何せパーソンのブロック技術が凄い。

I always shudder when I remember what it was like to be a chopper in the small ball, speed glue, hidden serve era. It's that context that makes guys like matsushita, ding song, and young Joo so impressive.

What was so different about then and now. I’m pretty new in tennis. It’s been less than a year and I want to know whether it’s possible to be a chopper of this caliber with the equipment we are using now

By far the best defender of all time! His agility and skill from both wings is amazing! Wish there were more recordings of him from the '90s.

Waldner gets most of the praise among great Swedish players but Persson was just about as good. Matsushita was a fantastic defender but Persson was incredibly consistent. Matsushita came out on top in this one.

Persson had a number of things going on with his life and his level declined whereas Waldner kept improving his game through out the 90's.There are not many videos of him in his prime.He did have the potentials to outlast Waldner but was unlucky.
