Remember, this is TAS, so save states and slow motion and a variety of other hacks are at play here. I'm saying this because not everyone knows what that is and might be thinking this guy beat Grandpoohbear's record. Not everyone cares that much about speedruns and knows the terminology. But, it's shocking to know that even with a perfected tool assisted run, GrandPooBear is only about 6 minutes shy of perfection on this nightmare of a game.

The lua script simply allows him to do things repeatably while recording the inputs the first time through. then the emulator generates a script with all the inputs and timing. To play it back the emulator just follows the script blindly, and things like this happen. This is also how in the water zones his sprite is facing both ways (in reality he is alternating between left and right every frame) It's a very cool technique.

He phased right through the fishing boo & several other obstacles like he was the fucking ghost of mario's past. Not the same thing at all. I would get your shit straight before you go calling strangers "noob", because you have in-fact revealed yourself to be the true noob here. Anyway, as impressive as the run was, i call bull-shit. There were just too many instances where he should've (& would've) died, under normal circumstances.

The hit detection is shit. I've literally seen baseballs, fireballs, ghosts, fish, etc. Go right through Mario. And somehow stomps on turtles by running face first into them. I'm sure the TAS would be less spastic when completing the levels if even half the enemies and objects did their job and killed Mario. The wall jumps are cheap too. Cheap and unrealistic tas run. Disappointed.
