Do you STAB the hook through the surgical tubing? Or just slip the surgical tubing hole over the point of the hook? Can't tell from the video. Cool idea!
@thecreativeangler5802
@thecreativeangler5802 Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes in the video I stabbed it through the tubing. It's actually wire coating thats a bit tougher than surgical tubing, but both should work well. Slipping it on the hook will also work, but then you might want to cut the tubing a bit shorter. Have a great day🙌

I sure like the ability to adjust the dropper. My only concern is that the rubber stopped will move to much when setting the hook on the hopper. I'm going to try this soon.

Hi Peter. I use a +- 16lb fluoro carbon for my main leader and a #2 weight rod with a lot of bend. A small rubber bead on a non tapering leader shouldn't move unless it's a big fish you are fighting. If the hopper moves it will still be ok, because it can only move as far as the tippet knot.

This is a great solution to this question I've long had. Thanks for demonstrating. I appreciate the question and your response about the hook going through the sleeve itself. also wondering if the line runs straight through the sleeve or does it get wrapped around the hook or sleeve. Can't tell. Will have to try it out I reckon to figure it out...would appreciate your feedback. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for your message. The line actually goes straight through. If it is slightly at an angle it's not the end of the world. The fly should just be able to slide effortlessly on the line. Cheers I hope that helps.👐

Hi, maybe the same consept but with a difference. Mine holds the fly better in place and sits tighter on the line due to the rubber stopper thats normally used for float fishing. I am using a rubber stopper behind the eye of the hook and a self made sleeve from wire stripping on the hook itself making it even less likely to slip. So mine is a bit different from his.🙂

Blood Knot? Not that it matters much but it appears to be what I call a surgeons knot. Do you think a tippet ring would work? Do you rig several of these ahead of time or do you build them individually on the river?
@thecreativeangler5802
@thecreativeangler5802 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill. You might be right regarding the knot. Sorry, my mistake😉 I am sure a tippet ring will work if it's small enough. I like to keep my leader as simple as possible to prevent snags because I rollcast alot in very dense surroundings. A heavy fluoro carbon leader works nicely with my flyline. It acts as a transparent extension of my flyline maintaining the loop and momentum when I cast, especially with a big foam fly and dropper nymph. That's why I only use 1,5 foot tippet of about 6lb strain for stealth and small nymphs. I also try to minimise breaking off my tippet and tying knots all the time in order to spend more time with the fly in the water. I fine tuned my setup over a long period of time to suit my senario and river I fish in and it works for me. I also rig my rod at home setting everything up and then carefully split the rod in 3 with everything still in tact. When I get to my spot to fish I can quickly get going. I might lose only a few nymphs during a session, but never my foam dry fly. I also prefer a long heave main line leader of 5 feet without knots , because it gives me a longer range to adjust my dry fly. I fish from very shallow to deep water all the time as I move up stream and need a long range to adjust the dry fly.It's more versatile when there aren't many knots and the friction on dry fly rubber and leader stays consistant when the fly gets moved or adjusted. If my leader tappered then the dry fly will become more loose as I move it towards the tippet. So the tension stays constant all the time. I hope I was able to answer your questions? Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.🙌

Hi, Doug, thanks for reaching out. They are just small rubber bead stoppers that I bought in a big package from Wish for very cheap. Here is a link. The ones I use are medium bean shape stoppers. There are also other ones that are transparent that one could use. www.wish.com/product/6151e849eff323f9972281d0?source=recently_viewed&position=0&share=web I think you might have to sign up to be able to buy. Do you find the hopper stays put when casting or does it slide from the wind drag? Great idea!!!
@thecreativeangler5802
@thecreativeangler5802 Жыл бұрын
Hi Tim Thanks for commenting. The hopper stays put when I cast. It also rarely moves when I have a fish on the line. The fact that the rubber bead is small and the leader line section diameter is thick makes the hopper stay in place. If I have a big fish on the hopper and it slides to the tippet knot then I just slide it back up the line again. Have a great day🙂

Very late comment, but what is the internal diameter of that tubing? 1mm? 2mm?
@thecreativeangler5802
@thecreativeangler5802 6 ай бұрын
Hi, I'm not 100% sure.. I guess maybe 1mm or a little bit less. It fits tightly over the line. The main thicker part of the leader doesn't taper so the small tubing's friction on the line stays constant. Use whatever tubing you can find as long as you are able to fit it on the line effortlessly. The rubber stopper is the one that causes the resistance or drag you want preventing the fly to slip. I hope it helps. Have a great day👐

Why not just use two stoppers at both sides of the hook eye-same way you would stop a waggler? I will try that for sure.
@thecreativeangler5802
@thecreativeangler5802 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that is an option, but I personally prefer it when the dry fly is not hanging. The elastic sleeve helps it to be in line and parralel with the line preventing possible tangles when casting, but your idea is a possibility and might work. Even more quicker to install then.😎👍

@thecreativeangler5802

Hi, I think it's a little bit different, because I use a standard rubber stopper that one can easily slip on the line and they don't. They use a rubber tube that slips over the eye of the fly and seems more longer to install. Mine keeps it's position on the line better even when a fish gets caught and doesn't move. Rarely maybe when you hook a big fish it might move a little. With mine you can use any fly. The fly doesn't need to be customised to fit the setup or rig.

Interesting 🤔 for sure - 7.5 lbs on dropper tippet seems like overkill , I use 6x/5x predominately (3.4 - 5 lb) for my nymphing as they descend far faster and quicker , which is what I’m after and have no problem landing big fish when I’m lucky enough to hook one
@thecreativeangler5802
@thecreativeangler5802 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, yes I agree, but the tippet works for me in dense over grown areas where I fish. I break off less nymphs or lose less flies. Also I can just jank the fly loose sometimes instead of ruining the swim by wading through it to retrieve the fly.
