5 gang toggle switch with dual USB ports and car port charger. blue sea systems 12 fuse block and battery on/off switch wire in sequence.
This is a discussion of what I did and some of the mistakes I made during the learning process; this is not a stereo guide to boat wiring. figure it out and don't set your boat on fire. good luck.

The mid terminal on your switch block needs a positive to show that it has power to run the led to show it’s on when switched on. You are running the correct heat shrinks on the switch block for marine but not melted on. Where it really matters on the main terminals you have the non heat shrink. Easy fixes though. You should run a lower gauge wire from fuse block to the first switch that is daisy chained because the power draw is adequate for the draw of each one but if you have many items running at same time it can get hot.

Nice Video - 1st recommendation add a inline 60 Amp Circuit Breaker amp breakers with Switch Manual Reset for Boat Marine from Off switch to battery and if your running a trolling motor same 2nd recommendation take one of the switches and have that power the USB,VoltM,CigPlug

So when you add a new device to a circuit, do you wire the positive wire to the switch and the negative wire to the fuse block?

You got two hot in and one ground. One hot is for switched circuit one hot 12+ to light then piggyback a short wire to the plus terminal for the little light in switch so it lights when turn on JT🐠🐟🎣🛥🐠⛱🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great video! My question is for the accessories that are going on the switch. Does each negative have to be connected directly to the fuse bus and the positives connect into the switch on the extra pole since the switch is connected to positive already?
@wildnwright245

Sorry for the late response, been very busy working on new content and replacing the wiring on the outboard. I checked the switcj wiring to be sure. Yes, each positive will be connected to the extra pole on the switch board. Then the main positive from the switchboard will be on a fuse in the block. Each negative will be on the fuse block including the switchboard negative. I split my switchboard into 2 instead of one so i have 2 main positives connected to the block that are fused. This should prevent overloading. Also i have the bildge wired to ran manually, aka switched or auto (direct wire to battery). I hope this has helped you. Dont forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE. Weather us warming and i will be getting the boat wet soon. Thanks for watching!

@@wildnwright245 there is a positive and negative going into to each switch, daisy chained, and in-between is a hot spade to connect to the positive from the light.

@@IndianaNature I have mine wired with all the negs being wired together leading to a single neg that is wired to the neg buss bar on the fuse block and same with the positive on the positive part of the block. My switches on the back have a male for the neg and positive and then one in the middle. I didn't use the one in the middle . I believe the middle male end on the switch is if you are powering a different item on that particular switch. I.E. the switch controls nav lights, and u only have nav lights on the front but u want to add an all around light on the back of the craft that is controlled by that switch, then the middle male end on back of switch would allow you to do so. I hope this is the answer you are looking for, if not let me know and I will continue to try to help. Thanks for watching

Where did you run the negatives from the switches
@wildnwright245
@wildnwright245 Жыл бұрын
I connected them together at the switch to create one wire for each row of switches and then connected those 2 wires to the top of the negative BUS bar attached to the top of the fuse block.

You never really showed how to wire the fuse box
@wildnwright245
@wildnwright245 3 жыл бұрын
Ok, lol. Theres positive bars and negative bars, red wires are positive and black are negative. The negative bar for this box is at the top, just pick a spot and stick the wire in then tighten. Now take the lead from the switch board and any other leads from electrical devices (red wires mostly) and connect it to the positve bar of the fuse box. For the battery, the negative (black wire) goes directly to the fuse box. Its the larger pole associated with the negative bar. The positve (red wire) goes first to the battery on/off switch and then from the on/off switch to the postive pole of the fuse box. My setup is slightly different from the norm. As my outboard is manual start and not electric. I also dont have gps/sonar. Dont over think it. The videp is more of dont make the same mistakes i did. But the above description should be the jest. Hope i didnt foeget anything. God speed and goodluck

Not trying to be a jerk like some others, but this doesn’t seem correct. You do have power to the switch panel, but each line should have either a inline fuse, OR a circuit breaker. With the way this is wired, if your fuse blows the entire panel is dead. And it wouldn’t let you know which wire/positive actually caused the fuse to blow. If I’m missing something please let me know.
@wildnwright245
@wildnwright245 2 жыл бұрын
No your correct, but instead of fumbling with 6 fuses and wires it's one wire and one fuse on one block. So if a fuse dies it only effects half the switches. Pretty easy to narrow down the issue if that happens. Also one block controls the nav lights, led box lights and bilge. There is no other electronics on this boat. The power draw is minimal at best. If I had sonar, trolling motor, speakers and radio, etc I would have multiple batteries with fuse blocks where each fuse controlled a component of the system.

Im sorry you feel that way, i thought i made this pretty stupid proof. There have been actual constructive comments made; maybe you should read those too. However this is basic wire splicing and what is wired where. I would suggest that you take your project to a professional. For some people its just better to pay for satisfaction than it is to put time and effort into educating oneself. If this is completed incorrectly you can cause a electrical fire and it would be regrettable.
