I was a pizza delivery driver when this album came out, and I bought it as soon as I noticed it in my local Warehouse (for the young people reading this, we used to BUY music on these storage mediums called a "CD" or a "Compact Disk"). Because I was driving for about 5-6 hours every single day, I was listening to a LOT of music at the time, but this album was so good, so innovative, and so overpowering that I would end up listening to it somewhere between 5 - 10 times each shift, start to finish, including the bonus disk (ESPECIALLY THE BONUS DISK OMFG). This went on for 2 or 3 months before I'd really seriously studied every phrase, every stanza, every note on this album in minute detail and committed it to memory. This album, Phantom Power, and Lovecraft are 3 of the best albums of that decade (2000-2010) which is really saying something when you're talking about a decade that saw Radiohead's "Kid A", Scott Matthews' "Passing Stranger", Brand New's "Deja Entendu", Elliot Smith's "Figure 8", Elbow's "The Seldom Seen Kid", Modest Mouse's "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank", Iron & Wine's "Song of the Shepard's Dog", Travis "12 Memories", Damian Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock", and on and on and on... It was an AMAZING fucking decade for music, and this early AF release remained dominant throughout the whole time with its two follow up efforts right there as well.

Shoot Doris Day Out of the way In the pouring rain Sentimentality pause As Jimmy Stewart ignores Her Question People never stay the same It's a fight between the Wild and tame I've some feelings that I can't get through Even to you my friend Wasting away in vain Oh! Mercy Victor Panache Lost his moustache In a P.R. war Public relationship tears No one would touch him For years People never stay the same... Rushing around in vain Don't tempt me People never stay the same It's a fight between the Wild and tame I've some feelings that I can't get through But those feelings never Bothered you People never stay the same It's a fight between the Strong and lame I've some feelings that I can't get through I'll just binge on crack And tiramisu Animals don't stay the same I've some feelings that I can't get through Without turning to a Military coup

As good as The Beatles, as bad as Hitler, as lame as the Krankies, as cliched as just about every comment on the World Wide Web of mediocrity.
