Ok, I'm 11 minutes into this episode and an original Hastings Congress set has made an appearance, with worn out black pieces and all. My favorite set ever! I'm so happy 🎉❤ Amazing collection, and great episode as usual.

I’m glad you enjoyed the episode. So I take it you agree to let chess pieces show the mark of time rather than to restore.

Its so nice to be able to admire all these one of a kind sets and learn more about them. Thank you so much Fabiano for sharing your fantastic collection with us. I knew of the existence of some of these sets but never saw them in their full glory. Stephen, thank you so much for helping to document an important part of chess history!

Glad you enjoyed it! Indeed it is much petter to see the pieces move around rather than a picture.

Thank you Fabiano for sharing the most amazing unique sets mostly Russian with great historical knowledge. I like the other chess photos, unique 5 signatures of the original Grandmasters and final sealed move. Thank you Steve for organising another interview with one of the great chess collectors.

Beautiful sets! I might get the St. Petersburg 1914 reproduction after seeing this set. Such a unique design. I’m curious, was it a particular version of the Super Grandmaster set that disappeared and is so rare? Because there are quite a few available via Etsy-both with plastic knights as well as some with wooden knights. I believe the finials of the black king and queen are often white, and may be plastic as well but I’m not certain about that. I’m so puzzled that you would produce chess sets specifically for grandmaster tournaments with plastic knights. I would have thought you would want to use a chess set of superb quality, but the plastic knights always look off in color compared to their wooden bases.

Any vendor that sells decent Hastings replica pieces? Chess Bazaar did so years ago but doesn’t make anymore
