Mohnish Pabrai is fairly heavily concentrated, but not near what 13F’s would indicate. He is heavily invested internationally and owns sizable positions in companies in Turkey and China.

Charlie Munger hates semiconductors. He says that they have to invest all their profits to keep things going. I think a junior trader bought, then Munger got involved.

very small % of portfolio. I didn't even know we owned it. actually portfolio is the wrong word. i think this data is for the all the investment vehicles Fundsmith manages. so may not have been Fundsmith Equity. TSMC is too big to be a Smithson holding though. and i think Fundsmith Emerging Equity is already closed.

I can give a shot Joseph at guessing why Warren Buffett may have sold. It looks like he sold right around/after China's 20th Party Congress. It was very clear in the media covering the event that Taiwan may see some conflict ramp up in the next five years (length of a Party Congress). He likely sold after this major event highlighting TSM as a risky stock in the near future in terms of not company fundamentals, but geopolitics.
@darrenhere5856 Жыл бұрын
but why would he hold apple ?
@delongzhai4887 Жыл бұрын
@@darrenhere5856 because TSMC is building 2 fabs in the US, but those fabs are not comparable to the ones in Taiwan. not only are they smaller, but they also have a shortage of talent. That would alleviate some of the pain that Apple will have. but not for TSMC whose majority of the wafers are manufactured in Taiwan. if anything happens, Apple will be able to survive and if things get long enough, they have some time to switch to Intel or Samsung.

Highly improbable that Berkshire bought TSM's bottom, they would have had to buy into the position throughout the quarter. Exceptionally doubtful they could get 71m shares right at the bottom.

Just one thing that I believe is true, Berkshire purchased Alleghany so I dont believe Bloomstrand sold his stake in the company and that is just a merge. I also believe the increase in apple shares in Berkshire is carry over from the Alleghany merger. Could be wrong though I am not 100% certain

Hi Joseph! Very insightful channel, really appreciate the way you share your thoughts. Question on your Qualtrim solution - does your tool help to navigate through stock out of the US, ie. European or Asian stocks? Thanks

Hey Joseph, just wanted to clarify on QSR since you sort of dismissed it at being just burgerking. They also own Tim Horton's and Popeyes which are really big in Canada. I don't think anybody is buying QSR for burgerking (I hope not!).

Joseph without looking into dates, my guess on the TSMC exiting position relates to the US's changes in policies in the Semiconductor space coupled with risky relations with China.

Great video Joseph. Interesting all the buys into BAM and BN from these superinvestors. Really hard businesses to understand so I haven't pulled the trigger. Would love to see you take a deep dive into these. Also, agree with you on the railways (CN, CP, UNP), credit card companies (V, MA) and credit agencies (SPG, MCO) having good strong moats that are hard to disrupt and good long term buys
