It makes a really high pitch sound. I wonder if you used a pancake bifilar or quadfilar coil if it would get even better. A quadfilar coil is the same as a bifilar coil except it uses four wires in parallel.

Lasersaber, I wonder if you thought about using the sound the Super Joule Ringer makes to create power to loop back into the power source, if it is even possible. As a kid, I had an electrical project board. One of the projects was using sound to light a small light using a few components and a speaker. The louder the noise created the brighter the light would shine. I was thinking. One might create a small noise resistant box with small speakers in it to capture some of that noise to create power. That would be a project I'd love to see if it would work.

Wow. That would be perfect my boat. My solar system is already setup for it. The problem that I see is finding that metglass toroid at a reasonable price. When we did the "Jeanna's Light " project it was the big 3" ferrite toroid that kept most people from replicating it. The low cost source ran out of them fast and the other sources wanted an arm and a leg for them. By the way people tell me that you can dip the toroid transformer in parafin wax to quiet it down.

I've been looking for a way to get atleast our lighting off the grid since 1999. We live in an apartment,so it makes it a bit dfficult. I've tried 3 batteries with a converter but the batteries still need to be charged with a charger.So now i'm thinking of using perpetual motion with a magnetic motor.But u have a good idea here that seems to work just fine.

I'm curious. Can you measure your amp draw with your circuit Grounded vs. Not Grounded. I predict if you GROUND the negative side .. your amp draw might go down slightly. Also, if that ground is a large FLAT plate and you put it near the light bulbs, that might have an effect too.

The dual of an inductor is a capacitor. If you can transform your circuit to use a large (electrolytic) capacitor to form the oscillating circuit, you might get the same result with no sound generation. Another solution to the whistling is to increase the resonant frequency way above human hearing. Of course, these are some of the principles behind ordinary inverters.

What voltage are these lights running on..guessing 110v, but could be 12v i suppose. Trying to work out the wattage being consumed, and whether or not another solar panel or two could make use of the light output to charge the battery powering the lights...you see where i'm going with my thinking?
@babygirl8181980411
@babygirl8181980411 12 жыл бұрын
I think it's the bulbs making that sound. If you use a non-dimable florescent with a dimmer it does the same thing. By limiting the input he has also limited the output to the amount of light he wants, instead of fully powering the bulbs. The result is the high pitch squeal from the bulbs own ballast.

As impressive as this looks I have a question. Regarding voltage drop over distance. In close proximity those lights look good. What gauge copper wire and what length of the wire are you using between each light? If your were to space those lights 10' or 15' apart. Would they be just as bright? Or would the resistance of the wiring reduce the power to the lights thus dimming them more?

Dude, i dont totally understand how the joule thief or joule ringer design functions but this is amazing. Is there anyway to set it up for higher amperage so you could draw down a deepcycle battery to its end? That would be UBER useful for people in off grid applications and thats what im really interested in.
@ralph72462
@ralph72462 8 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy I think you did really great on this and though you got a lot of slack on the noise I believe that it is not from the joule ringer but from the transformers in those bulbs. I may be wrong but I bet you could have run 10 times the amount of LEDs in series with out the noise by eliminating the step down transformers. Just a thought wish I had the schematic though you are using a very unique toroid core.

Your Lumans in light appear to be greater than your input in watts. JLN tested his Kapandze with a lux meter to determine the efficency of close to %100. Boxing the bulbs in photovoltaic panels and returning that output to source might be enough to not only replace the battery charge, but to run some additional bulbs free of charge. Do you feel you might possibly be OU with this setup just from ball park estimation? That appears to be a tremendous amount of light for such a tiny amount of input.

I wonder if the same concept will work on a 4 foot bulb. I would like to try it out. I went on the schemetic link there is no actual parts list. What type of transistor. What type of core and where can I get one. What gauge of wire. What is the magnet size and type. Is there a patent or copywrite on the design. I met this old farmer that's off the grid. I want to replicate this and give it to him as a present. He is letting me use some land to do a free workshop to teach people organic gardening

I think that sound is the most amazing aspect. You need to immerse your coil in oil and then energize. I suspect the oil will depress and a stream of gas will emit from the coil ends. I think you've tapped Reverend Tesla's impulse tech. I wouldn't be surprised if a battery placed at the end of the coil but not contacting would charge incredibly fast.

A good friend of mine had used an inverter and that was connected to a battery but came to the conclusion that the battery was way to fast empty ! So an invertor is good for small things but when you're using a device (or multiple devices) that needs (or together) many amperes, the inverter is not well working because it cannot handle much amperes. It will use more from the battery than normal.
