They were originally a Project Group for 5 months, but they became a fixed group the next year. They originally was a 13 member group but now they promote as 9. They have the first foreign artist to promote in Korea and TV Stations does not allow him to show his face so he used to wear a mask when performing. But it all ended when Heechul took off his mask at the end of their performance, that's when they start letting foreign artists perform on TV freely. They are going to be 18 years this year, and they have their own label, they manage their schedules and promotions but it is still under SM.

Super Junior, whether you like them or not, are a legend in Kpop. They've been together for 18 years now, I don't think you can last that long if you weren't crazy in some way. Being a 2nd gen group, they did set several firsts, things that are considered normal in Kpop now, a lot were done by Super Junior, including: -First non-korean Kpop Idol, with Chinese member Hangeng. At the time, there were laws in place that prevented foreingers from performing on Korean broadcast so SM Entertainment were slapped with fines a few times and Hangeng often had to perform with a mask on (there was a famous incident where Heechul ripped his mask off to reveal that he was in fact one of them and not a backup dancer). It's wild to think about now, since it's so common to have foreign members now. - First subunit, They were the first group to debut a sub-unit with Super Junior - KRY. Which has again, become a norm in Kpop, it's a way to put focus on a smaller number of members and to experiment with different concepts and styles of music outside of the main groups. -First to have a foregin focused sub-unit with Super Junior M, which was their Chinese unit and released songs in mandarin. With this, they also added 2 unit specific members, Henry and Zhoumi. - Also I believe they were the first Kpop group/Koreans to appear on a Chinese postage stamp too. They're a group that has not only kept up with the evolution of Kpop and the current kpop groups but grew with it. They may not be a group I follow religiously but they do hold a special place in my heart since they were the first Kpop group I've ever heard of.

I would add that they started or 'normalized' the "gay fanservice" as well and the 'couple' trend in groups as well. I don't really see that in other 2nd gen groups or 1st gen for that matter, however it's in almost every 3rd and 4th gen groups. The EunHae friendship chemistry is just that legendary 😉😊 Also, the whole 'rock, paper, siccors' thing, for decision making among idols 😅

They were also the first group that started to make appearances without the full lineup of members. They still performed. First group to have all members branching out to do other things in the entertainment industry. That is there is no member on SJ that is only an idol. They are actors, songwriter, mcs, comedians, directors, lyricist, etc...

SuJu are hilarious. They learned how to be crazy from the best, Shinhwa. Shinhwa was a really popular first generation SM group and they were WILD. Shinhwa was known for drinking, actual fist fighting each other in public, smoking, picking up girls in clubs, dating other celebrities publicly. They even put out a semi-nude photo album. Shinhwa was always late for events because they were hungover so much that often the managers used to carry the members on their backs to their schedules. When Shinhwa left SM after their contract expired, Super Junior actually inherited a lot of Shinhwa's former managers and when Suju would act up, they were yelled at and called Shinhwa-like. Super Junior's greeting is a variation of Shinhwa's group greeting. LOL When Shinhwa left SM, they created their own label, Shinhwa Corporation, so they could stick together as a group. Shinhwa is still active and the oldest k-pop boy group still in existence. I think a lot of EXO-L's hope EXO follow Super Junior or Shinhwa's example and become either their own company or become a sub company under SM like Suju did. Super Junior has been credited with starting the Hallyu craze with "Sorry Sorry." As crazy as those guys are, they're extremely talented. They are called variety idols (after Shinhwa) for a reason. Super Junior' vocal line, KRY, is still considered to be the best second generation vocal line. Their maknae is considered the best k-pop singer in general. Suju did have the first foreign k-pop idol when Korean laws were very anti-foreign. They were the first group to create formal sub-units. They even had a trot subgroup. They were the first group with so many members. They broke the mold when SM accepted someone who was so talented that he didn't have to be skinny like other k-pop idols. Shindong is considered the icon of dance at SM. All new SM trainees have to watch Shindong's dancing videos. Even with their wildness, they were so talented that SM created a production company for them. Super Junior was supposed to be a rotating group where a member "graduated" from the team and move on. That's why Super Junior was initially called Super Junior 5 for the class of 2005. That's why their greeting is "We're Super Junior 5!" They became a permanent group of 13 after the maknae joined because they were so popular with fans. When SM later tried to add additional members who were Chinese, the fans went nuts protesting. Fans even bought SM stock to make sure that Suju didn't add any new members. That's why the Super Junior-M sub-unit was created to try to appease angry fans so the Chinese idols weren't "officially" Super Junior members but a side group. SM had a lot of trainees when Super Junior was created. Most of the trainees lived together and trained together. Imagine having 20 people living in one small apartment! Some of the trainees became members of Super Junior while others became TVXQ so are VERY close. Shindong was the one who first taught Minho of Shinee how to moonwalk. In other words, Super Junior really is the funniest, wittiest, bickering k-pop group around but they are legends and still relevant because of all their talent. People wouldn't put up with their crazy antics if they weren't. They are legends.

suju is such a chaotic group. they are so fun to watch. as one of them said all of them are crazy. they were an experiment group. they were supposed to last for a few months & will be replaced w/ new members.(sort of what NCT's concept of adding members) but luckily or rather w/ their hardwork, the public liked them & SM made them a permanent group. i think they were the 1st ones to do sub-units too.

9:28 Yes, 2005, because this concept idol can be divided into different unit, idol can go to the varshow, become actor, actress, MC, DJ Radio, Model etc Super junior concept was like NCT but cancel because not well prepared. They end up debut with 15 member with lot of unit and active in alot of different entertaiment field

FYI.. Of course super junior was SM artist they are debute in 2005 Back then super junior there is two part Super junior M its was grup there is member from China n korea for promotion in china.. SM also did that to EXO there is EXO K basicly for promotion in korea n all 6 korean members the leader is Suho and EXO M for promotion in China there is 4 china members and 2 korean member the leader is Kris.. and 2014 3 chinese member left exo n SM so rest of 9 member of exo until now.. And the biggest project SM so many unit in grup as u know is NCT with unlimited members and so many units in it.. SM is the longest from big 3 entertaiment company in korea So many artist under SM ent.. The idea of project groups came from Japan, but it works with girl groups better than boy groups, because female fans seem to get more invested in members than male fans do. ELF protested to make SuJu a rotating group, they even bought shares in SM to prevent it. So SM relented and kept them together and named them SuJu instead of SuJu 05 (the year of their founding). They tried to bring back the concept with NCT, but they had to limit that too, as it still didn't work with fans. Eg they made NCT Wish (made for Japan) the last "generation" of NCT, and without "retiring" the older members, and they crapped the idea of NCT Hollywood (thank god). But we may see that returning with a seperate "global" group because many companies think that this is the future, esp Hybe.
