The comparison about the product names on the teal stripe to Ames reminds me of something I noticed as a kid- sometimes Kmart and Ames would have identical products, but different colors. Like I remember my friend had these pink and white shoes from Ames, and I had the same ones but in blue and white and they were from Kmart. I also vaguely remember seeing stuff like that all the time in the different fliers (color reversal and stuff.) always made me wonder if they were ran by the same people or what not lol

There were 2 super K marts in South suburban Chicago Illinois. One in Homewood closed and became a super Wal-Mart. One in Tinley park closed and building still sitting empty for now. They looked the same as the one in Ohio. Just like the 90s. Thanks for the awesome video of the last super K. I enjoyed it.

I remember there was a Super Kmart just outside of Uniontown, PA back in the late 1990's. I'm not sure when it closed, but it was a huge store sitting on top of a hill. Pretty nice for Fayette County.

Wallie, I live in Connecticut and just within a 20 min drive from my house there’s a Wendy’s that’s abandoned, babies r us and toys r us going out of business. A sears that is soon to be consolidating to one floor rather than 2 floors , a Benny’s which was like a Ames kind of... was in business for like 50 years and it just closed less than a year ago( I have a pic), a Tim hortons that’s been closed for years, an abandoned Pizza Hut, gym, hair salon and restaurant. I’m sure there’s more but these are literally within 20 min of my house. Soooooo crazy!!! Within 5 minutes from me back in the day we used to have a Caldor, Ames, Zayres, Bradlees and Mr.Bigs. So insane that all those awesome stores were so close to me. Then Wal Mart showed up and shut them all down :( But I’m beyond obsessed with old abandoned places and I came across your page some time ago. Absolutely addicted hahaha! Lampert has his share of the blame, but things were bad even before he came along. They had already filed bankruptcy once before. The leadership under Joseph Antonini and Charles Conaway (especially Conaway) really ruined what was once a great store. They have never recovered from that and Lampert is just the final nail in the coffin.

Sears never to my knowledge filled for bankruptcy, Kmart did. Yes both of them (especially Kmart) has been in trouble financially for nearly 30 years, ever since Wal-Mart took over as the number one retailer then Amazon and online shopping took off as well. One does wonder what would had happened had they never merged? Would Kmart closed sooner? Would Sears be better off without Kmart?

As someone who lives in an area not server by Meijer and LOVES the rare opportunity I get to go to one while traveling, that's definitely a worthy replacement to go into that location. I agree that Meijer is so much better than Walmart, I wish they were here in Iowa. That said, I share the sentiment that it's sad to see the last Super K in the entire world closing down. I fear this is going to be the final year for the entire company, both Kmart and Sears.

I remember the Kmart at Dobson and Broadway here in Mesa, AZ having disgusting bathrooms. It would be a good thing if this location became a Meijer. As someone from Michigan where they're headquartered, Meijer is a great store. I shop there a lot. It's a family run business and you can tell. I can think of at least two locations where Meijer has bought out old Kmart stores and converted them. One is in Southfield, MI and the other is in Lincoln Park which was an old Super K location.

There used to be a chain called Zellers here which beat them all... killed Kmart Canada, Towers, Woolco, and many others but then Walmart came to Canada in 1994 and really hit us. Then fast forward to 2013 Target expanded into Canada by taking over Zellers, went bankrupt less than 2 years later and crawled back home with $7 Billion in debt 🙈🙈🙈

Danny Bosarge Kmart has been struggling for years actually. If they and Sears make it to 2019, I'll be shocked.

I wouldn't be so sure, Danny. Our Kmart was doing great too, in fact it was one of the best performing Kmarts in the company...and then bam, they got the notice to close it down. Turns out the one who was leasing them the building after that stupid sell off your buildings and lease them back deal, they wanted $100,000 a month for rent and they couldn't make it so now the building is sitting empty. Yay for greed! Now instead of getting something, they are getting nothing, or perhaps a tax writeoff, who knows.

I liked your video even though I should have "disliked" because K-Mart going out = no bueno. It's just totally weird how my town goes from having two (non-closing) K-Mart stores in October 2017 to zero K-Mart stores in March 2018. It's just crazy. And now the only Super K-Mart in the world is practically gone after next week. So unreal.
