I like how the couch keeps talking about nerves and heart rate while cheese is trying to speedrun the game.
@roygoodhand13017 жыл бұрын
To come within two minutes and twelve seconds of one of the most prestigious speedrunning WRs -- Super Mario 64 120 Star -- at SGDQ is simply amazing. That feat on speedrunning's grandest stage is actually more impressive than his WR run IMHO. Normally, you're doing it with only about 3,000 people watching. Cheese did this with what had to be over ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE watching him! I nominate this for Best Run of SGDQ 2017!
@Hydrano7 жыл бұрын
It were actually about 200.000 people watching this live on Twitch + the crowd sitting behind him. If he plays at home there are no real spectators except for twitch.
@sayr88437 жыл бұрын
I'd say this is the most _impressive_ run imo. The commentary was insightful, but inevitably not funny or too engaging (at least as an avid follower of this game). And ye, there were over 200,000 people watching this. This was the most viewed live run on the Twitch stream for this event and the only run to actually have over 200,000 views consistently, let alone at all. EDIT: and I agree this is more impressive than his WR run. He didn't even attempt HMC BLJ on the WR. He also didn't die at all with all the crazy strats he's pulling off.

As someone who is new to speedruns (but loves it) I particularly loved this sentence: "If you're trying to do owlless and you get a firstie you won't be able to clip into the cage because you have too much speed."
@cammycakes2166 жыл бұрын
baileysmithful Basically if you wall jump on the first frame on the owl cage you cannot clip in. What a first frame wall kick does is it keeps your momentum. So you cannot clip into said cage afterwards

Just compared this to his PB... It's unbelievable how perfectly everything was working for him in his PB. He saved 8 seconds alone in being able to skip the lakitu message at the start of the run in his PB. Every trick he performed in the first few levels may have looked damn near perfect, but his PB did them all like half a second faster... I kept having to stop and resync the videos because his PB kept outpacing his marathon run by half a second to a second.

And the fact that he's also one of the best SM64 runners ever.

They also had no idea what invisible walls were either. Mostly, they are exposed ceiling hitboxes (yes, ceilings can be overridden by a floor, but a floor directly above another floor can override the floor and allow the ceiling to slip through), but occasionally they can be out of bounds.

@josephbrown60987 жыл бұрын
Breezeless skip on TTM works because of the way walls work in SM64. To put it simply, walls have hitboxes that extend out slightly in both directions perpendicular to the wall. Whenever Mario enters the hitbox he's pushed in a direction perpendicular to the wall so he can't enter it. On two sided walls these pushing hitboxes go in either direction, so if Mario tries to walk into either side of the wall he gets pushed away from it. However on one sided walls, they both push in the same direction, so Mario enters the hitbox "behind" the wall, he'll be pushed "into" it towards the proper side. The fence on the ledge where the star is is a one sided wall with its hitboxes pointed towards the ledge to keep mario from falling off when he's on it. So if Mario can gain enough height to enter the hitbox of the wall, he'll be pushed inwards toward the ledge.
