It's odd to me that this is pretty much only referred to as Dire Dire Docks when it's also in JRB (and that stage even comes first!)

Jolly Roger Bay is optional for 70 stars but you are required to do the submarine mission in Dire Dire Docks. Maybe that’s why the OST usually say Dire Dire Docks instead?

whenever i hear these "restored" or "remastered" versions of music, it actually helps me think about what kind of vibe the song was originally trying to give off. for this one, i think that the electric piano sound rising up in notes is supposed to represent a "swimming up to the surface" kind of vibe, pretty fitting for water levels.

You know that the Yahama keyboards actually have this EXACT sound sample? Well it the voice section for for most of them (I think) there is a voice called "EPiano3" which is one of the extras found at the very end of the voice list usually, and when I tested this voice I immediately thought DIRE DIRE DOCKS then I came here and what do you know, it sounds exactly the same.

Yes, the Yamaha DX7 has that same sample. In its electronic piano voice list, EPiano1 sounds very similar to the Roland JD-990 Crystal Rhodes. Some others do but I can't find out what ones have it.
