If this easy version had been out on the NES back in 1985, then even a 5 year old would have had no problem beating this game within a couple days (without even needing to play more than an hour or two each day). This should have been called “Super Mario Brothers for Dummies”, because you’d have to really be a dummy to lose on this version of the game.

There are a few locations where you could have gotten more extra lives. 3-1 and 7-1, most notably, by kicking the turtle shell against the staircase repeatedly. A few other locations have similar scenarios. I always hated the underwater levels because I rarely was Fire Flower Mario when in them. And, it was easy to get picked off by an underwater enemy while trying to collect coins in Regular or in Super Mario form. That's why I usually warp past the water levels when I can.
