For the most part this is very convincing, but the fast change in music cues (i.e. Mario grabbing the Starman) immediately gives away that this is fake. I distinctly remember from back when I owned a Sega CD and Sega Saturn, that if there was a change in pre-recorded CD audio tracks (i.e. Sonic smashing an invincibility or speed up box or reaching a levels goal) it would abruptly halt the music for a full second in order to load the required audio track. A red book audio music transition as smooth as what's shown here simply wasn't possible with CD drives of the time.

Fun fact Sonic CD started out as a simple CD port of Sonic 2 before becoming a original game *much like Ecco SEGA CD ports where it just add a bit few extras and red book audio* Sonic 1 almost got a Sega CD port like this too but that was cancelled.
