Funny how they had Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool's voice actors from The Super Mario Bros Super Show doing dialog for this type of thing

The most amazing thing about them using the cartoon series voice actors is that they actually didn't need to. They could have had a bunch of other voice actors do random voices completely different from those performances and this would have sold the same. I have nothing but respect that they went the extra mile and got familiar Mario voices. Ditto the Legend of Zelda read-a-long. Where as the Random House released Super Mario Adventures comic book and tape set that used their own stock voice actors. Then again, they didn't bother getting the actual TMNT voice actors when they released those comic book and tape sets.

Yep, you're not wrong there. I own the Super Mario Bros Adventures comic book which is made by the same company that made the TMNT ones. Weird coincidence with a bit of research. Even the narrator is the same person, but I don't know who are the people doing the voice acting for those
@mightyfilm Жыл бұрын
@@theheadlesssoldier Well, Archie published the TMNT comics and Valiant the Mario ones. But Random House had the rights for TMNT audiobooks (including standard read a long picture books) and somehow the rights to just one Mario comic collection. What makes the TMNT ones really weird, though, the first 2 collections were basically comic book adaptations of actual cartoon episodes. So you had these alternate voice actors that again, sounded nothing like any of the actors from the cartoon (Krang sounded like a bad Dr. Claw impersonation) doing the same lines. Personally, I think the voice actors did a better job with the Mario comics.

@@mightyfilm The Mario Comic you're thinking of is likely the Valiant Comics. When you said "Super Mario Adventures" I think of the official Nintendo Power comic; but you said "Random House", and "stock voice actors", and it got me to thinking of the Valiant Comics Audiobook; which, BTW, had someone playing Super Mario Bros. 3 in the background of the narration, while throwing in sound effects on top of the background noise that played out random game sound effects. It's distracting when the music and sound aren't separated, and it came off as unprofessional, and more like a bootleg than an official product, especially when their reading drags. At least with the Golden Book Mario Audiobook, not only did they have professional actors reading the book, but they also kept the speech in a good pace.

Why didn't they make this an episode of "The Super Mario Bros Super Show"? This would've been good.

They couldn't get the actual voice of King Koopa (Harvey Atkin), so they went with John Stocker (Toad)?

The 24 page book was illustrated by Art and Kim Ellis and published by the Western Publishing company in July, 1989. (However, some sources say it was published in 1990, like the other two Golden Books.) A book-and-cassette version was also made. The audio cassette was narrated by William Woodson, and featured Lou Albano, Danny Wells, and Jeannie Elias (the respective voice actors for Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!) reading their characters' lines while John Stocker replaces Harvey Atkin (the original voice actor for King Koopa in the DIC Mario cartoons) while reading King Koopa's lines.

I think that the Koopa Troopa who says "The Fire Flower will fry our flesh!" may have been John Stocker

I love the story, and I love that they got most of the voices from the Super Show, but I really hate King Koopa's voice in this! I also want to say I grew up with the ol' Book And Record sets myself (mostly Care Bears, though, and one for Disney's "It's a Small World"). I'll be having a look at the rest of your channel soon.
