The Pumpkin Zone carved up a last-minute victory in our second and final vote with 11 picks. Our runner-up finished with 10 while third place had 6.
Welcome to one of the more all-around challenging zones in the game. This pumpkin ties the Tree Zone by featuring a grand total of six stages to sneak through. On top of that, it's the only area in SML2 to have more than one secret exit to find.
While you think Mario would be most spooked by the many undead enemies roaming about, the real fear comes from the second of those two bonus stages. It's there that the game's less precise controls came back to haunt me in a big way. I lost so many takes then, and I'll be darned if I didn't mess up the boss stage in my first clear on that one sending me right back. Yeah, you better believe I put my usual mid-zone save point right before entering that lethal level. Oy.
However, something strange happened in a failed first take before reaching that point which you'll see at the end of the vid. Shame it features lower sound quality since I deleted the source audio, but at least my computer was recording a backup. Would've been a lot funnier if that mess hadn't ruined what was a ten-minute run to that point. Well, we can all laugh at it now.
Anyway, enjoy your foes based off of Japanese folklore and the beginning of the more interesting boss fights in this game. They're the highlights of what happens to be my least favorite part of SML2.

I loooove the Pumpkin Zone, especially since Halloween is my favorite holiday. I found the secret stages and made the skull castle light up as well as the ghosts appear and dance on the map screen. I wish I could design and replicate the Pumpkin Zone with my own huge stretch of land. The graveyard, mausoleum, haunted house (love that stage music), and the skull castle of the witch would be awesome to live in.

Localized that one since they're just a combination of both enemies' Japanese names. Boos (Teresa) and Goombas (Kuribo). Makes sense, right?
