I've only tried Super Expert mode a few times, although I haven't beaten it yet. The thing I hate most about the Expert and Super Expert modes is that you get so many troll levels, with either enemies directly above or in front of you at the start of the level, hidden thwomps, doors or warp pies that immediately kill you, etc.

I love this mode. the original expert is mostly just troll levels that make me want to hurt the designers. while there are a lot of those here, I find a lot less. my biggest issue on this mode is levels that start with instant death unless you do something ridiculous immediately.

Ugh, there is nothing cheesier than 'choose a door'. It's such a cheap way to artificially inflate difficulty, and putting it at the end of a level is one of the worst game design decisions I constantly see. It actively removes enjoyment from your level. Difficulty should be created naturally, so players win or lose based on their skill. To kill them with doors is terrible and shows that you don't know how to make a truly challenging or fun level, and that you need to use cheap tactics to lower your clear rate.

Okay, so all these Japanese Kaizo levels and whatnot are just chosen because the game actually just picks the levels by analyzing their clear rates instead of looking at the level itself. (I'm not sure.) Should explain why there was this weird level on the Easy category (where there were a lot of items and enemies there, but it was really easy to just run straight through).

It's easy to pick and choose your battles in Expert mode. I have yet to lose it. This mode on the other hand, almost every level has me getting thrown off a cliff on a spring or smashed right away. There's just entirely too much bullshit thrown in with actual enjoyable levels.
