It’s a weird game mechanic where we land on the tiny piece of ground underneath the flower to reset our cap throw for the next section. Very strange and inconsistent but that segment is not spliced, we just get an extra cap bounce from landing on the ground when we do that ground pound.

In Dark Side, how come you skip all the bosses except the second one?

@@alexdibiasi1633 Hariet cannot be skipped because here boss trigger extends through the door to exit the room, and the other bosses’ triggers do not for some reason. That said, there was recently found another way to bypass the Hariet boss fight by clipping out of it and exiting the room after the fight is already started! This version will be performed in future BTTs for All Moons and Dark Side.

You can find the spreadsheet where we track all of the statistics on this spreadsheet under the “ALL MOONS” tab: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cwB7H0kn9gMwo9Wx7DgzaZKMY-BQlifWT8poQz8HudE/edit Counting jumps and cap throws is tricky because it can be hard to tell when cap throws actually count or don’t, and further the number of jumps in a short sequence. We could be off by a few jumps and cap throws, but I’m confident in human’s efforts in counting for this video as well as everyone else’s efforts in counting the jumps, cap throws, and coins in every segment while timing them. The number of jumps and cap throws is factored into the timing of each segment, so we take great care to ensure that it’s accurately counted. As far as I know, the TAS’d jump segment goes slightly over the requirement in case of miscounting.

How much of a time difference do you think there would be between the All Moons BTT and a 100% BTT? What kinds of things (other than all the outfits) would need to be collected for 100%?

@@typhlosion_the_volcano_pokemon Man that’s a hard question. I don’t know how many more coins we would need to get or be able to get in the run, and the route changes so much by trying to collect certain coin stacks that would otherwise be out of the way. Heck some individual coins even become fast, like the ones in the very starting cap subarea, or even before that in the cap starting area. It’d be a completely different run, and we’d need to track coins closely in the way that we track jumps and cap throws, calculate the optimal rate at which we collect coins, and determine from there which coins are fast enough to make a segment with coins faster than one without. My kinda wild guess is that with getting all of the extra costumes, all of the music tracks, all of the purple coins, and everything else, the time difference still might be less than an hour with coin optimizations as well as the extra cap throws and jumps from getting more coins, but it really is impossible to know for sure.

@@artman40 It certainly would, but some moons do require one-player mode to collect. Current two-player speedrun rules do not allow swapping from two-player mode. This and a lack of interest are the main reason there’s no two-player category for the speedrun, but if interest grows, I’m sure the leaderboard mods would make an exception to the current rule to allow two-player runs to be completed with the use of one-player mode.

Other segments with more cap throws and jumps can be faster specifically for all moons. The KFR timer also stops during capture animations, so in real time, capturing an enemy might be slower than just doing movement around the enemy.

Good catch. In Odyssey, you can select a random outfit that’ll change upon death. In the BTT, we assume perfect RNG, i.e. that we get the correct costume on every death.
