So this was, by large and far, my favourite SNES game! With the remake, feel like they did justice to both the original players of the game, without changing story elements and keeping it as authentic to it's original style and mechanics as needed, while adding more modern components (switching party members in battle, such a needed refresh) and just enough tweaks to make it truly appreciated by both newcomers and veterans alike. And of course, having an actual orchestra play the music is just pure ear candy. Thank you Victor for an amazing review!

I really liked the remake, almost a perfect one for one glow up. I really wish there was a hard mode because honestly while it's beautiful to look at it's mind numbingly boring combat wise. WAY TO EASY.

As one who played the original back on SNES, I was hyped as heck for this remake, and it did not disappoint (in fact, it exceeded my high expectations). The only gripe I have is some of the visual effects from the original weren't kept in, like when a character would cast a spell, they would be surrounded in an aura looking like a card suit, with Mario having a blue spade, Mallow having a green club, Geno having a orange star, Bowser having a red diamond, and Peach having a pink heart. I wish those visual effects were kept in, because it just made the already uniquely different character even more special - hopefully, one day, Nintendo will put out an update that adds that visual effect back.

This remake was phenomenal. If anything it makes me want more SNES games remade. Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, make’em happen, Square!

Square already put out LiveAlive, Front Mission, FF, Star Ocean and Tactics Ogre. Square is actually on a roll lately.

speaking of the Earthbound series, yes Vic! But not only just Earthbound getting a modern looking remake... Mother 1 or Earthbound (Zero) Beginnings could USE a nice overhaul from its dated 8bit NES graphic look to be more modernized and maybe adding the rolling HP counter like Earthbound or Mother 3. but yeah for a SNES remake to go kinda beyond the original game is hard because most SNES games still hold up SUPER GOOD! Like Kirby Super Star got remade on the DS but it was still kinda the same game and never really needed a remake honestly.

Between Tactics Ogre, Actraiser, Live a Live, and now SMRPG, the SNES remake trend has been on a roll in the last couple of years. Obviously the catalogue of prime remake targets isn't infinite, but I wouldn't mind seeing an Earthbound or a Chrono Trigger before the well runs dry

The only SNES remake we need is the remastered collection of DK Country 1-3 built with the Tropical Freeze engine and FZero remake would be awesome too. That would be one hell of an announcement. Mario vs DK is gettimg a remake Feb so hopefully DK fans are not left out in the dust

I'm usually wary of remakes but I am extremely pleased with this one so far. A magic game then and now. Also, I think it looks far better then that Link's Awakening remake - both from the quality of the art and the fact that it's not smothered in bokeh effects like that game.

Many people consider SNES the most replayable retro console ever, so I agree that most games are perfect the way they are and don’t need remakes. Megaman X, DKC, Yoshis Island can’t get any better. However, the classic SNES RPGs are the exception because of the significant improvements of battle and menu systems, etc.

I love the video idea/topic. I'm surprised that it hasn't been much bigger "news"/discussion-topic about whether or not we need remasters of games. I guess there has been that talk in the past, but more about remasters to games from only like 2-5 years ago. My take is that I consider this to be a remaster, not a remake, and that I personally think it's silly and wouldn't play them if the original is essentially the same. But financially and "morally"(?) whether or not it's a good idea is just dependent on if there's an audience. And there might be an appreciative audience even if me or a bunch of other people are not part of it. Sure game balance has been tweaked and they added a journal, but aside from that this is just a remastering. I would have liked it if they actually changed the game up more (like SE did with FF7, although that was obviously a more extreme case, not every game needs to go that far), or at least expand on the existing game with a good chunk of additional content.

I could never bring myself to beat the original - I'd get bored with it half-way through. This remake gives enough polish to the game that I'm actually enjoying my time with it. My main gripe is that the textures and models can look ugly or subpar in certain areas, and I would have wanted to see higher resolution textures overall, and pre-rendered backgrounds to really push the visuals. I'd love to see more remakes of the SNES / PS1 era RPGs, such as Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, or Chrono Trigger. With the former two, I'd love to see how far they could push the visual fidelity with pre-rendered backgrounds.

No! What Nintendo and Co. need to do is compensate for input lag. The best Switch emulator wouldn't compete with SNES input lag (let alone NES) so switching to 3D seperates the games from direct comparisons (and raises the asking price a fair bit).

This game is really frustrating and dated, I'm almost done playing it... I'm enjoying my time with it but also there are SO MANY THINGS that should have been updated... definitely a 30 year old game right there.

DONT FUCK WITH SUPER MARIO RPG!!! The rest of mario games can go to hell. Squaresoft as it was in the day did a fantastic job of making Mario an actual playable story. Then nintendo copied that into the GBA and 3DS games.
