I don't know how many people actually encountered this personally, but if you can outlast that boss for about an hour he just runs out of "FP" and becomes almost literally useless. That was how I always beat him.

@@superdemonboy That's how most of us beat him, if not all of us, by spamming Peach revives and item revives. It has a bit more to it, but eventually he becomes a sandbag and you get a special armour, iirc.

The whole Smithy thing of "turning the world into weapons" may also be a reference to how Final Fantasy shifted away from the medieval fantasy style in favor of sci-fi, and how gaming in general shifted away from childlike adventure and fun to a more mature demographic.

BirriaBoy64 - Culex isn't a legitimate FF character. He's actually supposed to be a mashup of different FF conventions. The crystals are supposed to be from the whole "four elemental crystals of power" or whatever that usually is a story plot in several FF games. The boss-like appearance is supposed to represent final bosses (Apparantly Culex is latin for "Mosquito", which is supposed to be a small reference to Golbez from FFIV who's name is based off a certain kind of fly), and his master, "The Dark Mage" is possibly a reference to the class "Black Mage"

Here's how I fought this boss back in 1996: 1. Collect 3 Red Essences and save your Rock Candy. 2. Use the Red Essence on each character and spam rock candies (this completely eliminates the colored crystals). 3. Fight your heart out until you win.

It's being made by Square Enix themselves, as opposed to Nintendo. so.. probably? though they'd have to license it from Uematsu. And it'd probably be the Pixel Remaster version since it's the most recent rendition (not counting the ones made by Soken in FF14)

geno has the best offensive spell power, but there is actually a way to make other characters learn each other's spells. This works with peach for example who has worse moves but has higher intellect than geno.
