I think the best and faster way to get 10 lives in one go is on forest of illusion 1, after the halfway point there is this changing item box which contains a star, if you run straight with this star you'll get a combo killing the enemies which could come up to 10 or even 12 lives if you manage to hit the last bug

As far as I remember, these are some of the Courses where you could get lots of 1UPs. Donut Plains 1 Vanilla Secret 2 Donut Secret 2 Star World 2

I did the save at the boo house reset my console to make sure it worked and it was still at my previous save with less 1-ups (5.. I worked up to 19..) I made sure I gave it time to save to... :'( ... btw incase it matters.. its a UK PAL SNES console.

your cart might have a bad save battery. (if you are playing on the original hardware)

So not to s*** on your video or anything but in regards to the infinite lives tips why not just keep going back to the top secret area and going for the Yoshi egg Block in the middle? if you already have a Yoshi it'll always give you an extra life.
