Composed by Kenji Yamamoto. Recreated by me. This was made possible by locating the original instrument samples from workstation keyboards and drum machines before they were put into the game and rebuilding the soundtrack from the ground up, applying some modern mixing techniques along the way to lift the veil of 16bit compression and create an updated listening experience. To be fair, Super Metroid has an agonizingly bad control scheme. Running, jumping, and shooting at the same time is exceptionally difficult to do especially when they're all bound to the face buttons. It would be 100x better if the SNES controller had an L2/R2 button, or if look-up and look-down worked different and so you could bind run to a shoulder button.

@@aniel9088 Yeah, I agree. The only places where the game tells you there's a run button are in the option menu and when you get speed booster (after this part). Plus, the default control scheme sucks if you are used to playing other platformers, like Mario or Mega Man. I struggled a lot with this game on my first playthrough too, but it was still fun enough to make wanna speedrun it. These kind of videos make me remember the old days...

My first time playing, the "noob bridge" had me hung up for a bit, too. But my real "this took me hours to figure out and I needed help before gamefaqs was even a thing so I mail-ordered a guide" moment was that spot in lower Brinstar where Maridia and Norfair join up on the way to Kraid. X)

Sounds good, although the symbal sound in the original doesnt start untill about 2 seconds and then gets louder untill 7 seconds, then stops and starts every few seconds, unless that`s intentional.

The first instrument at 0.0, the more melodic ticking sound, that carries through for a while sounds way too high and tinny, I feel like that sound is much lower/more bass in the original. Otherwise the instruments sound good to me but that one does throw it off a bit. Good stuff

There's definitely *something* about this track that doesn't *feel* quite right. I'm no audio engineer so I couldn't tell you what to change. It almost feels like a Sega CD track... heh The other two tracks released are on-point, though, so no sure what's up with this one.

The most logic second track to restore. In your place I would have been restored Crateria first if all of the sources are available. Anyway, this must to be the second restored track because of its popularity, and it's amazing. Good work as always, Sam!

Was the compression for super metroid more severe than DKC? This sounds way too different than the game.

DKC and SM has two different studios work on their soundtracks so that’s my guess why the compression is different

There are some reasons for that 1: The sample of the game bass is very small in the game 2: the game's instruments have been downsampled too much and have no treble boost like DKC 3: The instruments in the game are not multi-sampled, just like the marimba in the game was sampled in a high octave.

Sam didn't use all the same samples as the original for this restoration, most notably the bass which is a (custom?) dexed patch.

Nice, but doesn't sound close enough to the original track. Looking up to future revisions! Hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I believe people want to listen to the sounds of their childhood as close as possible to the original (what you did with the DKC Trilogy soundtrack and the previous SM Track)

One detail you're missing. The music fades in when coming down an elevator. Also the beat that starts at :36, the deep sound that repeats has a stronger or in a way a longer lasting bass in the original. Yours is similar but does not feel as heavy as it should if that makes sense. It starts at :07, sounds like "dodidodidododo dodidudodidodo"

TOP 10 Game for SNES!!! and the music 10/10 80s and 90s we enjoyed the gameplay and music at the same time, hard work for those days! because in a rom chip musicians and programmers had to put music and game codes in such limited hardware, modern days the fun its over, the music and gameplay are seperate (its like playing alone and press play on a boombox with music CD.

this one is remarkably different from the original in a good way. The original was horribly compressed. Eye-opening, this has many instruments I've never heard because of limitations. The restored one is atmospheric and new.

The bass is too high pitched, and it also just sounds "wrong" to people because its using a more natural sounding sample rather that the original FM Bass sample. Also, the "Marimba" part in the very beginning is also too high pitched.

The google drive one sounds different, it has a fade in and the instruments sound different, so now there's 3 versions, this one, the google drive version and also the bandcamp version on the Super Metroid Recreated album but which one is the most recent finished version>? *after listening the bassline sounds most like the original on the bandcamp version, the others the bass attacks sound plucked rather than synthy/smooth

​@@JamminSamMiller That's cool and I appreciate it but it still doesn't sound right, the pronounced attack of the bass is still there, your bandcamp version bassline is the closest version. It needs more texture, a rounded quality lacking a sharp attack and a rounded sustain, I think it needs some modulation effects like a chorus or phaser to add depth and texure that gives it that mystery spacey sound

Probably a CRT filter in Retroarch or another emulator. CRT Royale and Halation Glow are good ones.
