Ihatovo sounds like a real hidden gem! will check it out! There was a Japanese game I used to play that you might like (either as a games left behind or game that defies genre). I can't remember the name right now but you're in a class room and one of the students is a cow. Ultimate Fighter is part of the Hiryu no Ken series (Flying Warriors & Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll on NES here in the U.S.). I love this series! Wish it got more love but I understand why it doesn't. Gameplay is very niche and can feel a little wonky. The Japanese games are long overdue for English translation patches.

FYI, "Zero 4 champ" is supposed be pronounced "zero yon champ ." In Japanese, "yon" means "4", and "zero yon" had been used to describe drag race until the engrish word drag race (doraggu re-shu) itself became common.

Also, I'm very intrigued by Terranigma from the various times you've mentioned it, so I'll play that too :-)

Ultimate Fighter, a guilty pleasure of mine. Some facts: - It is a localized version of Hiryuu no Ken S, which has the normal version and the Hyper Version. UF is probably based on the normal version. - The hiryuu no ken games went across many platforms like Arcade, NES, GB, GBC, SNES, N64, PS1, etc. In the super famicom there is another game of the saga. SD Hiryuu no ken, which is a fighting game. - In this game, you can turn on the dot system for the 1-on-1 fighting (at least that is what I call it) like it was in the other games. Which is a dot appears where you can attack, and the other must defend that part of the body. It is hard to put on words, but once you get the hang of it, it can be pretty fun and unique.

One of the most genre defying games I've ever played is Cosmo Tank, an Atlus game released on the Game Boy in 1990. I guess it's basically a top-down, action adventure RPG, with exploration elements and game changing power ups, that is also a vertical scrolling shoot em up, a first person dungeon crawler, and sometimes sort of an FPS/shooting gallery game, or something, in which you combat alien cyborgs with a tank that transforms into a spaceship while traveling between planets.

Ultimate Fighter is the Western localization of the Hiryu no Ken series of games. The more popular ones were the NES and the Nintendo 64 games. The NES one was similar to the SNES version but plays much better due to the smoother scrolling. The N64 versions were basically 1 on 1 fighting games but had their own twists. They're worth playing.

The gameplay is also a mix of side scrolling action with some rpg element and a QTE style 1v1 fighting system with different fighting styles in multiplayer mode.
