While most people had mixed feelings with Super Paper Mario, I personally thought it was one of the coolest games in the Paper Mario series. I loved the concept of transforming a 2D world into 3D, it felt natural considering everyone is technically paper 😆
Super Paper Mario released in 2007 for the Nintendo Wii & instead of utilizing the standard RPG-style of it's previous titles by not using a turn-based battle system, SPM incorporates RPG elements with platforming. I still wish there was an RPG battle system, 'cause I can only imagine how epic the "normal" battle theme would've sounded, but at least we still get epic boss themes like this one!

So high-technicaaaaal! 🤓 Wow, this was such a fun and unexpected surprise! Usually, when I see Super Paper Mario remixes, they're for a certain few iconic tracks, and I don't know if I've ever seen a remix of Francis' Battle theme until now - and I'm sure glad that it's a Player2 remix! :D Right from the get-go, I love that wacky sound that sort of spirals down with a crazy pitch-bend effect - that was so cool, and very a propos for this theme! And as Hanabi mentioned, the use of both in-game and outside sound effects is incredibly well-done. This remix has _so_ much character and color in that regard alone, and some of my favorite instances are at 0:42 (with that squeaky faller), 2:20 (with that "wet" kind of computer processing sound) and 2:47 (with that iconic "enemy KO'd" sound effect). And my goodness, the segment at 0:57 is FANTASTIC!! How did you cram so much goodness into 2 seconds of music?! Seriously, the transitions here are too good, and between the SFX and drum fills, the song segues between segments in a variety of interesting, fun, and satisfying ways. Speaking of which, holy heck man, this percussive work is next-level. I love the use of added percussion to supplement that steady, driving beat, like those filtered snare hits at 0:40 in the middle of that dope tom fill. And even the very beginning of the song leads with a tom fill, which is a unique approach in itself. So often, I find myself abusing the 5-second repeat feature when listening to your music, because they're just chock-full of percussive details. Every single drum, percussive sound, and sound effect is chosen carefully and utilized with pure purpose. And your mixes are always so clean and uncluttered that even the most subtle details can be heard, like that rising pitched snare at 2:46. Awesome choice of instruments, as well, and that piano is indeed a really cool addition and feels right at home here, despite being technically, well, ...less-high-technical. 😁 As a piano fan, I can't help but jam out to that part especially, and the high-velocity, Dance-style sound of the notes keeps the energy at a high level throughout. The array of instruments is really something, and I love that it ranges from cute and silly, to intense and bold - all the things that make Paper Mario music what it is! I have to mention that your thumbnail is absolutely _genius_ and I legit laughed out loud when I first saw it. That extra effort to create custom dialogue using the OG font really paid off, and it makes the video feel super customized from the get-go. It's been awhile since I last played SPM (which I only beat once, in truth), so it was refreshing to see footage of the Francis Battle, along with all his cheap tricks. And showcasing gameplay from each of the heroes was a great call! I love the transitional effects, too, and how they always correspond with shifts in the music. Once again, excellent work, Player2. Your remix videos are always such a treat to watch and listen to! 🌟

I wonder if they would ever make a Paper Mario movie. Those always have the best plots in Mario games, especially origami king, which is a real tear jerker. The paper characters and arts and crafts backgrounds would also give the movie a really unique animation style. Oh, and this is an AWESOME remix!!

I loved this game so much. It was rough around the edges for sure, but I’d love to see them tackle the concept again. I love the fast pace of a platformer compared to a turn-based RPG, and combining that with great RPG story, exploration, and a touch of leveling up was great!
