Your delivery has always been great, but it is somehow improving, or maybe just solidifying. Your sense of humor keeps these things light and entertaining without them turning into anything resembling outright comedy. But they are chock-full of information. Keep up the great work, as always!

Hey great vid. Also, thanks for doing the Vision Jet and DA42. Hope you're still planning on the DA42 sequels with the updated engines/maybe a DA62 comparison since they're basically the same plane. If you're looking for a new idea, how about a Tecnam P2006T? Been seeing it in a lot of magazines.

Good thing I invested in my twenties so I can fly in my fifties. Just the price of fuel these days makes it rough for the average Joe without a trust fund. I may just have to go with minimum liability and self-insure the hull to afford a plane. Still worth it.

Question: what is a TBO?
@CompleteWalkaround
@CompleteWalkaround 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, That means time before overhaul. How long the engine can go before getting a very expensive overhaul. Its not a hard set number and the tbo is used more to calculate the value of the engine. As it approaches tbo, the value drops to very little. This value drop is the reserve cost in the equation.

A parachute always makes sense on a single engine airplane
@CompleteWalkaround
@CompleteWalkaround 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, I disagree. For 3 reasons. First, A parachute would make this plane prohibitively expensive. You don't see Auto-Land and G3000s in small singles for the same reason. Even if you could argue it makes them safer. It doesn't make sense to put them in there. Second, A full air frame parachute doesn't justify flying in areas where emergency landings are impossible. Cirrus has a parachute for mostly for engine outs during IMC or night flying over dark terrain and because of it's poor spin recovery. When flying singles you are supposed to be prepared for an engine out emergency landing. Third, there's no guarantee the parachute will work. Flying a super petrel during daytime VRF and being cognizant of a potential engine out, I would dead stick that plane 10 times out of 10. If you blow the chute and it doesn't open properly you've got no engine and towing a ruined chute. I would rather land engine out and touch down at 30 knots in the water or on land.
@mluby7828
@mluby7828 2 жыл бұрын
@@CompleteWalkaround There's no "jettison deployed chute" lever in case it tangles or something? Of course, that'd add *even* more complexity and cost. For a seaplane, a giant airbag might be better, like that Mars lander had. 😂
@abates3747
@abates3747 2 жыл бұрын
the top wing is ahead of the bottom wing, top wing absolutely must stall first... all multi-plane airplanes, the forward plane has to stall first, or at the same time, but absolutely can't stall last. Canards for example. The first stalling surface needs to promote happy flight situation of nose heaviness. If a wing behind stalls, then that makes the airplane absurdly tail heavy to the remaining flying surface, and life for the pilot and crew is about to end.
@CompleteWalkaround
@CompleteWalkaround 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. But thanks for the random canard info. The two wings have difference angles of incidence and the bottom goes first. Listen to the guy who got this place certified in the US explain it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYm4YoSMhZyNnMU
@abates3747
@abates3747 2 жыл бұрын
@@CompleteWalkaround , if the rear plane stalls first, the center of lift is now wildly ahead relative to where the CofG is, meaning wildly tail heavy. It's just a fact. Maybe there's some magic in the Petrel that means it stays a flyable-yet-wildly-tail-heavy machine, but the geometry of aerodynamics don't change... maybe in a landing they want a tail heavy airplane to plop and stall even harder.
@abates3747
@abates3747 2 жыл бұрын
@@CompleteWalkaround , it might be for water handling. The forward plane will get the nose up sooner, and keep it up longer after touchdown... at the expense of stall characteristics.
@CompleteWalkaround
@CompleteWalkaround 2 жыл бұрын
@@abates3747 My friend, I think your knowledge of canards may be spilling over into biplanes here. This is taken from the Super Petrel POH, page 3-8 The Super Petrel LS has a design feature that allows the lower wing of the aircraft to stall completely while the upper wing remains flying. Indication of a stall is apparent when lift is lost on the lower wing, and the nose of the aircraft drops. This allows for recovery from the stall while the upper wing, containing the ailerons, continues to provide positive flight and control. Aircraft with an Angle of Attack (AOA) indicator installed will also be notified of a stall when the AOA is absent of green bars and/or the stall warning audio tone is heard through the audio system superpetrelusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Pilots-Operating-Handbook.pdf The top wing is just a few inches forward of the lower. It's a different shape and angle of incidence. Who's to say where the center of lift is on either. Not us clearly. The good folks who designed this plane were nice enough to tell us that the bottom wing stalls first.
@abates3747
@abates3747 2 жыл бұрын
@@CompleteWalkaround , it's not just canards, but general multi-plane aircraft. lower wing on a beech staggerwing stalls first, upper wing on a Pitts stalls first (and as a cool trick even does it inverted), I'd simply more like to know how a lifting that's behind another lifting surface, when stalled, will drop the nose... even with tricks like different airfoils and angles of attack. Maybe it's just drag and the higher moment of the engine... interesting. Forgive me for saying you were wrong however. Like I said last week, your videos do brighten my day :)
