Just wanted you to know your info you shared on the spawn put a whole new enjoyment to my fishing hobby. I’ve spent the last two weeks at my favorite fishing ponds just watching the spawn (no fishing) and the beauty of it all has been…inspiring.

Hey, Thomas. Thanks so much. You know, there was a very popular, and competitive, salmon and steelhead stream that was closed to fishing one year. People came anyway, mornings, evenings, lunch breaks, just to watch. It was so cool watching all those fishers, and just spectators, watch happily...mesmerized. I think it changed everyone who did it, just a bit.
@onecitizen902 жыл бұрын
Just try to imagine how much better the quality and number of bass in any lake or pond would be if they were closed to fishing for a short time during the spawn.
@getstraight2342 жыл бұрын
I concur. Paul's videos have forever changed the way I fish for the better.
@MC-qg5nu2 жыл бұрын
@@onecitizen90 This has been studied and there's almost no difference found by DNR scientists. Each spawn is thousands so the limit on bass is the resources available for the plentiful young. In a 3 acre pond, yes disturbance could make a big difference if the bluegills get to the few nests that are going on.

Hope you’re able to catch some good ones this spring. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge! I now say to myself, “Think like Paul” or “ talk to me, Paul, where are those carnage zones” when fishing is tough. You’ve helped me catch more fish in the pre spawn than i usually catch all year! I normally don’t start fishing for bass until after fish come off beds because i never understood the cycle. I have fished water temps 48-58 (currently) and have had a blast! Ive been able to select the correct baits and locations throughout this season. Thank you! I got to fish a wildlife conservation flood control pond today that i didn’t know existed after talking with a game warden for awhile. The males were soft-locked on beds. Some would pickup and move my jig off the bed and some would just leave. Some would spook off at first sight. Using the knowledge you provided, i casted to the breaks beyond these males and caught 9 good cruisers! You’re the man! I miss your videos and rewatch them all pretty much constantly on days i cannot fish. I understand life though. Come back if you can. Either way, i hope you get to go catch some this year and many more years ahead!

Hi, Vortec07. What a great comment. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know how I've helped in your fishing. Love the details. And thrilled that you are experiencing some of the joys and thrills that I do when trying to figure out the day. Very cool post! Yes, I'm fishing again, finally!!! And I'll be back as soon as I grow some roots here in my new location. My wife put it this way: "Paul grows deep roots. It takes time for them to snap and time for them to re-grow. I hope we never have to move again!" Things are settling down here and I'm in process of gathering content. I've gotta be fishing for both motivation and to validate, best I can, what I put out. Terrible that it's been so long. I didn't expect the complications that arose. Anyway, some good news: Our new place has two bass waters on the property. I've been able to get out and track them this spring, and it's been pretty darn cool to watch unfold. Like clockwork, if you ignore the calendar and watch the C&C. So far resulted in LM's of 20" from "The Pond" and a 22.5" from The Lake" (caught just yesterday). Now I've got to... make the videos. No small task the way I do it. And, it's been a while... Best, Paul
@vorteco7692 Жыл бұрын
@@thenatureoffishing7591 Paul, I’m so glad to hear that you’re catching them! I definitely understand the roots explanation. Glad to hear you’re doing ok. Moving is a pain!!! I think i have one good move left in me. Southwest Oklahoma is where i am and have grown up. Im ready for a change here at the almost mid-life stage. Absolutely on the C&C. The calendar is basically worthless now. Lol 20” and 22”! Those are great fish! Hopefully they gave a good fight! I always find it interesting the way those larger (usually older) fish bite. Some bite like a dog shaking its favorite chew toy and others just seem to want to hold the bait. Some feel like setting the hook into a stump, yet others don’t feel big until they see the boat/bank. What a wonderful world we live in. Ill leave you to it. Thanks for letting me talk your ear off. Its not often i meet someone else with fish-brain disease as bad as i have it. I’ll patiently be awaiting your return. Glad you’re ok and fishing!

Hey, MS. Thanks so much. Yes, that SW heat can be rough, dry or not! The CO plains where my videos were shot can get mighty hot at times too. And, interesting that, although geographically northern populations have different adaptations to cold (winter), metabolic requirements appear to be the same N to S, E to W. Even floridanus have similar requirements. This is true across the literature I've been able to see. Possibly future research will tease something else out. I want to be careful about being, and spreading, dogmatic ideas. But, this seems to be the case. Interestingly, bass in a laboratory setting when put in a heat gradient, have been shown to work there way up the gradient to nearly 90F temps! These were fish fed ad libitum, all they can eat, so I suppose they could afford such racing engines? That's my take. Not aware of any research that's definitively teased out food consumption vs temperature in a gradient. Would be cool to see. Paul

Been going through your library again, great stuff here. I would like to hear what you think about LMB behavior as it relates to night time feeding. I have had limited success at night, very limited 😉. Do bass feed at night? Are there specific times of the night that are better than others? Seasonal factors etc. This type of information would be helpful and might be fodder for a new video or just a short.
@thenatureoffishing75912 жыл бұрын
Would love to cover night time bass behavior and fishing. Yes they feed at night. Esp in summer. And some individual fish, esp adult fish, feed more at night than others. This is not only true of bass but trout too. Fish can appear downright stupid at night in response to lures. Things you’d never get away with in daylight fish are suckers for after dark. Dunno about time of night. Lotsa angler theories out there. But I’ve not done the work to know.

That was awesome. I was just as impressed with the juke n jive moves the bluegill utilizes in an attempt to make the much faster Micropterus salmoides overshoot his mark. I would be curious to see more video of bass /bluegill in separate but similar waters to see if the tactics of unrelated populations are instinctual or learned from observation and experience. To quote a particular friend of mine. “ If bass had big teeth then We wouldn’t be swimming in our lakes, rivers and ponds”. If their behavior / tactics vary between populations with similar climate and habitat then some interesting questions regarding intelligence and genetics. Ive recently developed an interest in the various methods utilized to measure intelligence in various species of animals including Dogs, cats, birds etc. Ive consistently been suprised by how much more intelligent many of these animals are than I actually thought. It wouldn’t suprise me to learn that bass behavior is dictated by more than just instinct with a short term memory problem.

Hi, Jason. That's the one I most want to get to, and have been working toward. I need more footage for certain things and the last year-plus has put me behind. Waiting for "critical mass". Best, Paul

Hi, B P. Thanks. We're doing well, now settled into our new place. I'm currently focusing on my next, and likely final, documentary on largemouths. After that I'll be free to do... whatever I want. Lots I'd like to cover yet. I need to get some fishing in, too, which helps with inspiration. Just been too busy getting our new place in order. Best, Paul

I wanted to ask you your opinion on the decathlon float tube seems really nice for 199 delivered one of those to good to be true nice
@thenatureoffishing7591 Жыл бұрын
Hi, t. Don’t know anything about them. Nice looking design. I like U-tubes. Durability matters. But concerned about too good to be true things. When reading reviews I often read the 2,3,4 star reviews. Paul

Hi Paul, I’ve been thinking about you and I hope all is well. Best Mark
@thenatureoffishing7591 Жыл бұрын
Hi, Mark. Good to hear from you. All's OK here. Things are settling down after our retirement, cross-country move... and other things. My life isn't exactly back to being entirely my own, yet. So, I'm trying to fit TNF back in. Mine's a labor intensive take on fishing. Love it! Can't do it any other way. Wish I could be more efficient. I've been working on VFJ's but the seasons slip away before I can get them out. So I either save em for next year, re-configure them into something wider scoped (which becomes a feature!), or just put em out when I can, algorithm be damned. I think I've pretty much done the latter anyway. Just trying to figure out how to work TNF into my (new) life. Thanks for checking in. There will be something coming out... Best, Paul
