I worked as an alignment and chassis mechanic through the 1980's. The Station/Conquest was among my top 3 favorite cars to drive: Porsche 914 and 1st gen Toyota MR2 were the other 2. All 3 had a handling quality I called "point and shoot driveability". Left hand at 11o'clock on the steering wheel with index finger pointing at the road ahead, right hand on the shift knob (manual transmission, of course), right foot pinning the throttle to the floor. Wherever you pointed is where those cars went. Thanks for bringing this to us. Btw, the ads at the time all pronounced the Mitsubishi version as "Star-eon", not "Stair-eon". Thanks again to you and Mrs Wizard for making these videos, she makes you look marvelous!

I have owned three of these over the years. Yellow-89, white and red 87's. One thing I learned on them, they have 2-different sized fuel injectors and you will normally be required to replace head gasket after a re-decking. Outstanding cars otherwise. Oh and the TSI's rear and front tires....don't rotate different sizes. Learned that in '89 when leaving tire shop. Yep they learned something new too.

Thanks for showing a car you don't see anymore, and in red, to boot! These aren't around because young guys would rod the daylights out of them! They'd either blow up the engine/turbo/trans or wad it into a light pole. I knew two best friends; when these came out, one got the Mitsu. About 3 days later, Hector got the Chrysler. They raced those things any and every chance they got. The Mitsu lasted about 2 weeks but the Chrysler went on for almost a year. The Mitsu slid into a fire plug. They were VERY sharp and quick lil cars, though!

@hughjaskoch54564 жыл бұрын
Heh, fast they were not. I owned the turbo model. Though I suppose for its day it was ok. I owned one, his specs are off. The 2.6 turbo made 153bhp and 209 torque. I have a 4g63 turbo from a 1g DSM Plymouth laser. My goal is to find another StarQuest that ain't rusted out and swap a the 4g into it. You don't see RWD 4g63 often.

VERY COOL .." WIZARD " !! My dad had a STARION version in a STUNNING Champagne colour !! I convinced my dad to compare it to a PORSCHE 944 and decide which way to go No question , 944 was a sweet car ...but the price difference was significantly much more expensive ... We LOVED that Starion !! 5 speed !! Shared a 900 mile trip with my dad driving it Was a SUPERB, FUN RIDE !! The styling with those blistered fender flares and those GORGEOUS staggered beefy wheels / tires look FANTASTIC!

That Conquest is rare indeed. People forget that yours is an actual working auto repair facility. It takes at least 10 to 15 cars a day to pay the bills for a shop that size. Most of it is quick routine maintenance. We don't see those but we have to remember that they are what keep the Wizard and his crew fed. The fancy exotics and rare cars often require parts that are hard to find and take time to get. That's why they are in the background in so many videos. Sweet ride though.

Miss this car. I saw a few when younger, my stepdad loved this car . Which lead to a 90 Eagle talon TSI being bought. And they still have it little rough , no rust just old paint and a non-working turbo. And over 200k miles on it !!

In Australia they were a common sight. They were made by Mitsubishi and called Starion. Ours had the 2.0 turbo. They were a sort of upmarket alternative to the Cordia.
@jeffpitzer85214 жыл бұрын
I owned 2 87 conquests one red one black... I loved them! Small turbo spooled up very quickly! The 2.6 engine is almost bulletproof.. Mitsubishi used it in pickups and industrial equipment also. The turbo version had several differences. Lower compression pistons..oil cooler.. fuel injection..it is a WAAAAY better car than a 944 Porsche! I had the same radio in my 88 Dodge D-50.. the seats were often swapped into other vehicles because they were awesome and very adjustable.
