I’ve been a tank main for years now and I don’t see enough people talking about the real problem. Tanks really aren’t “weak” at all, but they can definitely feel that way when the other team counterswaps you. The true problem is that by making the tank extremely powerful, they become the most important target to shut down, and you wind up with the rock paper scissors gameplay of counter swaps. By buffing what each tank is good at (like giving Dva more matrix, Rein more shield, ect) all you are doing is actually REINFORCING counter swapping. For example, Dva is strong against Maura because she can matrix the damage he needs to do to sustain himself. Well now she can do that even better, so that matchup becomes even more polarized in Dva’s favor. The same could be said for any tank that counters another. I played a lot of 6v6 and while it certainly wouldn’t fix every problem I do think it was healthier overall for the game. This update shows the the dev team lacks a fundamental understanding of why tank is so miserable to play right now

It looks more and more like they are making up for the fact that there's only 1 tank by slowly buffing them with each update. It's always felt like as a tank, my main goal is to just 1v1 the enemy tank, or pick doom/ ball and dive the hell out of the healers. I almost exclusively play tank, but just last week I decided to play a bunch of DPS and the game feels so much more fun and way easier to carry because I have another DPS to help if I'm being counter-picked. I can really see this just making tank more about swapping constantly until you both end up mirroring each other.

Exactly, the worst thing about playing tank is that they are to OP against something and completely useless against others, this patch just enhance this problem. A dva .5 seconds to matrix dont do anything against a Zarya (but now zarya is stronger making it more favorable to the zarya), a mauga 100% lifesteal don't do anything against a matrix or a grasp (but now Matrix and grasp can block his entire overdrive), and many others. these changes makes tanks better against the things there are already good at, and worse against what they are bad at, forcing even more counter swapping

Yes I don't really understand how no one understands this, especially the dev team. The more gigabuffed tank is the more the pressure is as the tank to be the team leader and entire lynchpin of the team. This is the main reason I don't like tank anymore, you can't play what you want and especially how you want, you can't play into bad matchups to express your skill like other roles, if you're fucking up or not playing optimally it's quite literally all on you and this becomes more and more true the more they buff this fucking role. In my opinion with the Mauga change, since Cardiac Overdrive was already incredibly broken, the 5 seconds to 3 seconds nerf does not matter as that last 2 seconds were just dead time anyways since the enemy team would be guaranteed to fuck off during the duration. You could almost argue it's an indirect buff since now it has more uptime since the cooldown will start sooner

I'll have to agree... In theory the new one can easily save you after falling behind where the old one likely wouldn't. The duration isn't as important if it's almost guaranteed to heal you to full no matter what Though I don't play the game myself so take this with a grain of salt ig. People say that the old one already made him invincible but to me that seemed to be true only if activated at high health. Under constant fire he wouldn't heal much more than he took damage, so activating at low health he would fall over the moment overdrive ended

In lower ranks, I almost always give my shields when we are capping the last point. Everyone focuses the healers/ dps and leaves the ball alone a lot. Dive the back, grab shields, jump on cart and give shields, repeat. In higher ranks, I'm sure people realize they need to bomb the healers fast and then target the tank, or just fully target the tank. But in low ranks, I can definitely say giving the shields is much more accurate than keeping them.

Mauga is in the farm against anything that can stop him from shooting. Sigma Rein Dva will now completly shut down overdrives value, defense matrix can absorb the whole thing, both shields can block the whole thing sigmas black hole can absorb the whole thing. Since it only lasts 3 seconds you only need to block mauga from shooting for 3 seconds and he gets zero healing. 60 - 100% makes no difference if he cant shoot anyone.

What killed Overwatch 1 was the devs abandoning the game and not releasing patches in order to work on PvE that ended up getting scrapped. They also started working on OW2 in 2018/19, when the game was doing fine and nobody was asking for a sequel. It’s weird to say, but in my mind, Overwatch 2 killed Overwatch 1.

If anything the Mauga nerf is a nothing burger. 2 seconds is a 40% reduction in time but it's also a buff 40% in amount of life steal. If anything it's still a buff since he can regain faster in a shorter period which would be more effective when being focused.

Dva and sig can just eat all his dmg so he doesn’t get any life steal because of the shorter duration, Winston and rein can shield it so he doesn’t get any so it’s actually an ok match up now, he just got worse into his bad match ups and better into his already winning match ups. Yeah it’s insane but remember that the fact he has less uptime makes him useless if any char has some kind of mitigation, shields, defense matrix, sig suck. You could wait until they have popped them but defense matrix u can use again, sig has Shield and rock to stop u, rein has enough shield with good shield management to stop it, Winston while not a good matchup can still bubble to stop the life steal, ram can put up a shield that lasts longer than his ability, a bunch of characters completely shut down his ability for 3 seconds. While it is insane for 3 seconds, if he can’t make use of it it’s useless, and a lot of characters have a way of dealing with it, while u could wait, sometimes he needs to live so he has to pop it early, so it’s mostly a nerf. I will say into characters thst can’t stop the dmg or get away he is busted. If used at the right time it can be busted, the prob is that there are so many things thst can completely shut him down now for 3 seconds.

Playing DPS in this new patch, I've never felt more cosmetic in my life. I have extremely little control over my games and any value I can provide is never enough. I can be performing extremely well in my field and it won't matter, because the enemy tank can almost singlehandedly wipe me and my team off the planet. Did you forget that mauga has armour and armour was made even better? Did you forget about the dps passive change? The fact that mauga can indeed have 100% lifesteal and 30% damage reduction is more than enough to offset the 2 second nerf, alongside the fact that by having a shorter cooldown but much more potent ability, he'll be able to use it more often and it's much better

Literally no impact on tracer. Her damage gets halved anyway. Also tracer players don’t “deserve” anything; she’s an honest and very difficult hero.

They lost the plot. 6v6 had its own issues and now 5v5 has its own set of issues. The only way around this is to make every tank generalists. Make everyone kind of like Ramattra who can poke a bit and brawl when needed.
