In 2009, National Geographic Pristine Seas explored the Southern Line Islands and found pristine coral reefs, with thriving corals and large fish abundance. But in 2015-16, an unprecedented ocean warming event killed half of the corals. The Pristine Seas team returned in 2021, hoping to see some signs of recovery. What they found instead was the most spectacular recovery of coral reefs ever witnessed. The full length Super Reefs film will premiere in 2023. Stay tuned for more details.

@@adamrushford Good point! At least we have the power to start reversing some of the damage we've caused, even if it's only small changes at the moment.

Power of Nature that can recovery even from brutal events. We can only get humble in front of mother Nature but we must comprehend that even little things we do everyday may cause Great problems. We can choose and don't buy. Even little things in everyday life may change our world and make It better. In this video I see Emotion and Passion in the eyes of these men. Thank You for your efforts and commitment

This made me so happy. I hope you can make a video too on how this is affecting the lives of local fishermen. At the core of protecting our seas, is to not drive the local people around it into the brink of desperation. Making their lives better without pushing them to have to overfish, is what would drive them to help protect the seas around them as well

Thank you for raising awareness to how sensitive reefs are to warming events and that we need to protect what little reefs we have by not over harvesting fish. This video truly shows the human impact on sea life.

That's wonderful but that's only one place and as you said it's the one most protected Coral reef in the world the problem is everywhere else is still suffering and even there there's the problem with my microplastic and the changing temperatures increasing temperatures and the sea level it's only a matter of time if we don't slow it down by stopping using fossil fuels we're just going to have less of this time and more brutal time because we all know what comes after the planet heating up then it gets frigid and it ices over so which one do you want I prefer what we have now and to save it as long as we can by stopping the abuse

I don't see the great barrier reef on that map of protected areas, pretty disappointed with how Australia takes care of her natural wonders. Having lived here in SEQ for a few years now it's pretty sad to see the destruction. Hopefully things will improve with the new government in place.

As much as I enjoyed the video and the beauty of this environment, I really wish that it was just left alone if not pointed out to the internet. Now this place is going to be overruned by western tourist that just going to trash it while treating indigenous locals like foreigners in their own land.
