You know, I really wish that they did more with Setsuna and Evangelion. The game has a running gag of him wanting to communicate with other enemy factions besides ELS and failing. So it feels like a glaring omission for him to not do the same with the angels. I think he gets to fight them once, but he doesn't make any particular fuss about them. Was it any different in Z3?

Makes sense, especially if Setsuna fails to communicate with the ELS with normal 00 Qan[T]. Instead only upgrade is Tieria subpilot (though in the movie Tieria did help out a lot)

Something I've noticed, the ELS are in Yamato's dimension... Either there are more dimensional shenanigans going on, or Earth would have been in trouble even if the Yamato's mission was successful!

D180223 I haven't seen the whole movie but I do know what happens. I would choose to keep him in his Gundam. Then again, Tieria as a support pilot is a good thing. Either way, the player chooses.
