The NSW Waratahs were unable to send off departing champion Michael Hooper with a farewell home win on Saturday night, as Moana Pasifika left it until the final round to salute their first victory of the 2023 season.

Hooper's long been the MVP for the Tahs and Wallabies, unfortunately he's done it at a time when neither were particularly successful. Like Sergio Parisse, he'll be remembered as the outstanding member of two teams that were, for almost his entire career, going nowhere.

I'm a Hurricanes supporter but that really sucks that Michael Hooper didn't finish on a winning note Dane Coles & Aaron Smith did wish Hooper did as well he always gave it a hundy no matter what.

Whatever happens has happened, mh chose that game to be his last at home whatever the outcome. We should thank him for his contribution all those years. The sweat, blood as he toiled only he and those closest to him knows. So those also leaving super rug for whatever reason I take a bow. Hooper, smith, whitekock, retallick, and many I have not mentioned including favorite coaches razor, machdonald stepping up for the ab's. All u guys have been part of my routine for rushing home every Friday and Saturday evening , mix the kava with friends and sit in front of the telly as long as games lasts. Once again a big vinaka vakalevu from Fiji.

You're not wrong. I just don't think this season that Moana had their heads on right till the end of the season. Drua making the finals might, MIGHT, be the thing to kick them up the backside and make them refocus. Look out for Moana next season.

Real shame for Hooper, easily one of the aussie greats. But great win for MP who have been toiling away for few results all year. So grats to them and farewlll Hooper, you will be sorely missed from the kiwi perspective, Hooper kept many of the NZ team honest.

Bad lucks Hoops for your last game because Waratahs that was absolutely dreadful. The only thing as bad was the ref, who at times looked like he was an AFL supporter that had accidentally walked onto the pitch. Congrats Moana, who were the far better team.

Was Jake Gordon injured, or rested? He’s the leader, they need him (as do the Wallabies IMHO, at least in the squad). If rested I’m guessing a dead rubber/QF outweighed a legend’s retirement party. Will this act as a kick up the arsenal or total demotivator for the Tahs next week? We shall see… P.S. Technically, NSW could have one more home game: if the lower ranked teams won every QF then the Tahs would be hosting an SF. Miracles happen… but probably not this one though. It’s hard to see any away team pulling it off.
