man high level duck chess has such a different vibe than crushing noobs at duck chess. instead of a string of funny duckmates it's the most grueling slow builds ever into quacktical mayhem at the end

That second game was insane “Deep duck theory”
@garys517520 күн бұрын
That second game was crazy. Sure looked like a draw, because the duck can block the pawn's advance on every move. I was thinking "how does Eric think this is a win?" And then Eric captures the opponents king with his king!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW! You gotta know your duck chess endings!
@nephandi231619 күн бұрын
Yeah, we already saw that one when Eric began playing duck chess, it was the big question back then, is K+p vs K winning ? Answer is yes, basically when playing from the losing side you either allow yourself in the corner like opponent did or you, at some point, have to use the duck to take away squares from the king but then pawn can advance...

At 1:16.25. did the opponent hang his queen and Eric missed it? It gets hard to follow I am not sure if I saw that correctly. It would have evened the match at 2-2.

I feel like Eric let the pressure of a formal tournament format get into his head. Too many "duck slips" and just weird duck moves that didn't make any sense. This dragon character was a formidable and high rated motha ducker but one such instance of Eric beating himself up is at 3:19:42. He plays Na5 Duck a4 essentially trapping the Bishop on b3 and then pre-moved dxc4. He should have pre-moved Nxb3 and been up a Bishop. If dragon played cxd3 no matter where he puts the duck it can be met with Rxd3 and Duck somewhere along the c file to hold onto his own Bishop. Eric is still the GOAT of Duck Chess to me, I can't wait to see you win the next one. Guac!

I wonder if there's ever going to be a duck chess engine. And what value it will put on the pieces. Because I feel like knights are overpowered, definitely stronger than the rooks. Maybe it should go like 3 points for bishops, 4 points for rooks and 5 for knights. Anyway, if someone comes up with an engine it will definitely help the theory. Because right now it's very difficult to evaluate positions.
@stvia15 күн бұрын
I think it also depends on the part of the game i feel like rooks might be stronger in the endgame
@ИванБорисюк-п7э15 күн бұрын
@stvia, you can easily see how in one of the endgames where Eric is up a full rook he can't make clear progress because his rook is just blockaded by the duck. And he ends up losing in a time scramble. Of course, it's still his mistake, but it's impossible in normal chess and also it would have been way easier with the knight in that same situation. The players still feel like rooks are stronger in the endgame which is why they end up trading off the pieces with the rooks still standing. But I think an engine could change the perspective, putting more emphasis on saving the knights all the way up until the endgame.
@stvia14 күн бұрын
@@ИванБорисюк-п7э yeah it also depends on the endgame. But generally in an endgame it is most important to block the king and thereby keeping the rook blocked comes at a great cost. However rooks are way worse at defending pawns since they have to keep contact with the pawn they are protecting and thereby a king can easily attack both at once which makes the knight in some endgames more useful

Is there many draws in duck chess?
@DavidCook-pm4yf18 күн бұрын
Not many. There was one featured here and it's the first I've seen. The only way to draw in Duck Chess is by agreement. Someone sends a request and it's accepted. No way to stalemate. It would seem the only reason to see a draw is in a tournament format like this where time left on the clock plays a big factor.

16:48 why not duck g5 to win the knight? Duck f4 just forced it to a safe square.
@AlanMalloy19 күн бұрын
I thought this too at first, but duck g5 doesn't win the knight. The opponent can block the rook with the duck, giving the knight time to escape. So white can choose which way the knight escapes, but not trap it. I guess Eric wanted it to escape in that direction.

What @AlanMalloy said but also I think Eric let the pressure of a formal tournament get to him too. There were other cases the duck moves didn't make much sense.
