"The voice acting in this game is awful, but I love it." The way I see it, the voice acting in Silent Hill 2 _enhances_ the experience. It makes it just that much clearer to the player that these characters aren't all there in the head. It's why with the HD Collection, despite being done by professional VAs, is poorer (I mean, among many other reasons). The performances are too slick, too "normal". They don't sound like people who are genuinely disturbed. It doesn't help that, _because_ the newer VAs were professionals, you end up being taken out of the experience. I certainly do, when I've heard these same people in hundreds of other games and anime dubs. The original VAs not only put in performances that matched the tone of the story, they're almost entirely known for this game. You aren't hearing the voice actors, but the _characters._

Exactly bro I feel the same way. Sometimes the talent of the actor doesn't matter, certain people just shouldnt be cast for certain roles. Like Al Pacino is an amazing actor but he shouldn't be cast as Batman for example, and that's what happened with the HD collection.

Doing VA recast for HD collection is the biggest betrayal this game faced in my opinion. With all due respect to Mary Elizabeth McGlynn who is a truly wonderful performer and crucial part of SH franchise, her rendition of Mary just doesn't work. And neither do Troy Baker and Laura Bailey, being extremely talented and respected VA. Not everything should be about marketing profit. The original voices were perfect for the game, because that was how there were meant to be during the production. It reminds me of MGS redo of voice acting for Twin Snakes, they didn't recast the actors (at least the main ones), but it was still different and felt and sounded off comparing to the original game.

Cant remember where I heard it but apparently the voice acting of the original was meant to be poor to an extent, it was intentional to make it more uncanny, which I just *love* because it feels intentional too. The voice acting to me is great because it DOES sound uncanny, and that makes the voice acting go from mediocre to bloody great.

Why is it that whenever someone is coughing in a game or a movie or something they're always fatally ill? I mean people cough all the time but it doesn't mean a big ass Alien alien is gonna pop out of them.

its part of the idea that everything in a piece of media is there /spoken for a reason. Coughing or sneezing is a common symptom for a cold or illness, so most writers use this to foreshadow said sickness. If a character coughs or something the viewer will digest this as foreshadowing for future illness. If he cough was there for no reason, it seems unnecessary. That is unless the cough is used to highlight an awkward silence :)

just completed this game today and I have to agree with the countless analysis videos that acknowledged that this is a masterpiece. It's weird that my strongest emotional response to the ending was relief when James and Laura escaped that foggy nightmare. I found myself able to fathom the idea that Angela deserved a whole lot better and how we could have saved her too.
