If I can make a suggestion. On vinyl before you put your first coat of edgecoat primer. Take a lighter and run it down the edge, not get as close like you do when burning threads, but close enough you sear those vinyl hairs. even when cut with a super sharp rotary cutter, there’s fuzzies on the vinyl. When you burn them off it makes the vinyl very smooth and you can really tell the difference on that first primer coat and depending on the thickness you may be able to save a layer of primer. It doesn’t suck the product up at all. Same reason you burnish leather edges with a tool before edge coating, saves a lot of sanding. But you really have to finesse it to not burn the vinyl. Do some scrap test pieces to get the hang of it. Do a edgecoat primer with and without the edge being singed to see the difference.

Another fab tutorial Jess! On another KZbin I was watching for edge painting they said not to dip into the jar if you were coating vinyl as it is fibrous and puts small fibres into the coating. They said to pour a small amount into a dish with a bit of cling film in there to keep the dish clean and you can fold it over to stop the paint from drying out.

So cute!! I love your creative ideas!! Just a thought about attaching the pen loop. If you open the loop flat you can baste it to the pocket before you clip it all together then you'd only have the one unattached edge of the pen loop to worry about and your basting stitches would be hidden. Just a thought 🤔

Hello Jell! I love your channel! All of your tutorials are so easy to follow as you explain and demonstrate so amazingly well. Do you have measurements of the pocket pieces or the strap tab please? My book is a different size to yours so trying to work out what I should use. Thank you x
@atticusk85487 ай бұрын
A suggestion: For custom binder cover, measure binder closed from end to end and add 1/2" to each end and use for cover and lining. The suggested blanket statement to add 3"-3.5" to measurement given in the video was imo a disaster and I had to recut. FWIW Shabby Fabrics has a Bible Cover template for very precise measurements to make a cloth cover that worked perfectly for customer sized binder. The template measurements took a few minutes to do but imo gave a professional result and there was no floppy fabric. IMO the directions given by Oklaroots for customizing are simply too vague and the imprecision imo gives a very floppy/sloppy looking and sad cover. If the cork and vinyl I used weren't so expensive I would have just tossed my first custom binder cover as it was a hot mess. But, It took a long time to recut so I could save the materials and get a tightly fitting cover for my binder. Just posting this so others won't go down the path outlined in the video and waste a ton of time on a custom sized cover. Pattern as outlined in video is fine for the notebook suggested but imo seek out other makers for the custom version if you value your time!
