Melee had tons of hidden tricks and exploits that got removed from Brawl because Smash wasn't meant to be complicated or THAT competitive. Brawl also included mechanics like tripping, which while they were funny, they were random and therefore pissed off serious players. So basically, the gameplay simply lacked depth, despite having so much more content in general. Which the Melee community hated.

Personally, I was casual all throughout my time with Melee and then Brawl. I had more fun with Brawl due to friends (and the glorious custom stages we would build), but I liked the aesthetic of Melee more. For some unknown reason I preferred Adventure Mode to Subspace Emissary (despite me completing them both on Very Hard and Intense respectively). I loved Melee's music more. To me, they're both legendary games. I can love Brawl while also loving Melee.

Plain and simple... Brawl wasn't Melee so people got upset. The same thing happened with Ultimate when it was first filly revealed and is still hated by some because it wasn't Melee HD

@@Dave_Chrome melees aesthetic is ugly. It doesnt know what semi-realism is so, it looks like a confusion of realistic or cartoony. Brawl was a blend of both while melee was just confused. And it had an irritating shiny sheen to the characters. Wtf. Unless by aesthetic you mean menu design, then yea the retro arena type look was great. And ultimate has the ugliest and laziest fucking UI design ive ever seen in anything that wasnt indie garbage. They didnt even try and ultimate has no atmosphere compared to melees arena-like feel and announcer voice.

I made up my own head canon story from Melee's to Ultimates theme, they each have different moods almost exactly what you said before i read the comment. Melee has that prepare for battle type of vibe with everyone getting their gear ready, Swords, Arrows, Lasers and armor. Brawl has that we just started the battle feel that has a serious but still exciting theme. Smash 4 has that moral boost feel in the middle of this giant battle where the Heros start to win a bit more but still have some challenges ahead. And finally Ultimate being that climax of the big battle, that home stretch type of feel where the good guys are about to win. Glad i found someone with similar thoughts, and i just see this as one big battle.

Melee is where I started and I loved that theme. Brawl was the most epic I'd heard, 4 was like a huge celebration about what this game has offered in the hearts of the community, then to be greeted by the ultimate theme, marking the most epic smash, even giving us the best roaster filled with characters from not only the Nintendo franchise, but other popular titles. My opinion, there is no best, everything had a positive impact.

Never owned a GameCube back then and didn’t own smash for my 64. Got a Wii U just to play smash bros. Wii U will use all the menu music from the previous games at random. I that being said, I’ve found melee to be my favorite theme

64 is mad underrated imo. The theme sounds like… it‘s a game that wasn‘t even supposed to exist first. Madman Sakurai added Nintendo characters because he fucking felt like it, without even asking. Surprisingly, he got the permission… and thus, a surreal crossover game came to life.

Putting nostalgia and personal bias aside i actually think Smash4s theme is the best. It perfectly captures the feeling of gaming titans coming together for an all out epic clash better than the other themes. So id have to pick that one to summarise the series if o had to choose just one. That said, every theme is phenomenal in its own way. Long live Smash ❤

My top list: 1- Melee 1 Best song, so epic and makes me want to play Melee again. 2- Melee 2 A close second, I really like the vibe of this song. 3- Ultimate This song grow a lot on me, at first I was too found of it but I love it now, almost as epic as the ones from Melee. 4- Brawl 2 A remixed version of the Melee 2, I prefer the second but still great. 5- Wii U/3DS Good song, even if the menus of the Wii U version are not so great. 6- Brawl 1 Nice song, not as good or fitting as the ones above though. 7- 64 I still don't know what this is supposed to be.

I know I’m going to get absolutely slaughtered for saying this...... But I actually like SSB64’s menu theme. I’m not saying it’s my favorite, HECK no! My favorite is SSBB’s! (SSBU is very close) Idk why I like SSB64’s menu theme, I think it’s just that ominous vibe it gives right before the PROPER menu theme (the character select theme) But still, all of the menu themes are good in their own ways..... But absolutely NONE of them will surpass Brawl and Ultimate’s!😆
