master hand was the first time a video game final boss gave me any source of fear on the n64. this dude's laugh, attacks, and the fact the fight was very challenging just made this dude seem like the real villain. and even his intro gave me a sense of dread. hearing that ambient background noise before the fight began just made me feel like i wasnt going to be facing against an easy foe. when i beat him for the first time, ive never felt so... powerful. sad thing is master hand wasnt really the ACTUAL main villain in the series, and is replaced by some weird solar ball with plastic angel wings.

Yes, masterhand is the child who brought the characters in the game to life with his/her imagination as they're lifeless toys. He's imagining himself fighting the characters. Which is why you look at the ending, 1:59, the character once again become a lifeless toy when the kid stops playing with them

I never really made this connection as a kid, but the reason the sad piano music plays after victory is because by destroying Master Hand, you break his spell that created the Smash world, and your character goes back to being just a lifeless doll in some kid’s room.

Now we have the existence of Master Core (the Core, being the actual being, is probably inside the glove alongside the swarm), but there's no lore around it. We still don't know anything about what Master Hand is. In fact, it's even more confusing now.

It didn't happen in this video (different resolution, maybe), but I remember very clearly on the TV I played on back when this came out, when you beat Master Hand, and the screen fades to white, as it fades back to black, his icon looks like it's waving its fingers. I remember it vividly. I must have watched the little hand almost every time.

I think Master Hand was one of a magician's gloves to put on while starting the magic show of his own. Maybe one evening, he forgot to put on Master Hand while he was putting on Crazy Hand. Everyone laughed at the magician's naked right hand that he put a fit and accidentally stomped his wand in anger that caused both Master Hand and Crazy Hand into live hands. Master Hand must have been taking off to the sky but not space via crashing into the roof. Crazy Hand had taken off from his master and took that same route Master Hand was going. That was my job for Master Hand's past.
