Bro, that comback in the second match was insane. I haven't watched a Smash tournament since the Smash 4 days, but this is really fun. I know most competitive players are against things like items and stage hazards, but still! This tournament was so exhilarating and chaotic! I'd love to see more tournaments like this in the future.

It was so fun. I really liked watching the Ganondorf player and in general the boomerang usage was so cool to watch. My favorite moment might've been when William used Mr game and watch upb into his final smash. That comeback from Danny was something, really thought he was going to lose

I fought in this and had a blast. 256 people. I faced Retrostar in my second round and the stage got me. However, it was so much fun. Congrats to all these guys and I hope to play in this again someday. Maybe even face some of you in the future!

While i understand not having items and final smashes in official tornaments i never understood why they dont utilize squad steike as a ruleset. It would make tornaments more interesting to watch as well as trivialize character matchups and tier lists. They wouldn't have to worry about new steve and Kazuya players steamrolling tornaments out of nowhere. Because they would be forced to actually git gud at the whole game. But whatevers.

Squad strike is often a side event, but it's usually not considered the most prestigious. I agree it is very entertaining, but I also understand the stress it puts on for players, in a game with 80+ characters.

I love squad strike, it's a shame average tournaments never do it. The only thing that made it boring, which could be easily remedies witha little rule, is the people who double up with Lucina/Marth, Samus/DSamus, Peach/Daisy.

Man, I wish I was there for this tournament. Love the rule set, and the selected items are all the decent ones. So may crap items I turn off, and these are just the good ones. I also like that there are no assist trophies or other OHKO items (the bat may be, but anyone who gets OHKOd by that deserves it). No FS meter means no one will be picking characters with instant win FS like Ness or Zelda. And the stage hazard stages are entirely reasonable (except maybe Gamer, but that's okay).

The competitive community does its own thing without items and hazards, and that's fine. I'm glad to get to see something different. I wish Nintendo would run their own full-on tournament series, with items and hazards on, and support it financially to the point that the top players couldn't just ignore it because they might not like the ruleset/format. "Labbing for items" would become a real thing that they'd have to take seriously.

You can't take a Tournament seriously that's pretty much RNG. With Items and hazards on, it's not even really skill-based, which makes it way less interesting.

@@SparksOpus You can take poker tournaments seriously and they are both skill and luck. Just because someone CAN eliminate the majority of variance from a game does not mean they SHOULD. If someone can be grinding to get better for 5 years and still have exactly zero chance against any of the top 10-20 players, why bother getting involved with the game at all? Reducing the skill gap a bit would not be a negative, whether it’s with hazards, items, lower “best of” sets, playing out Sudden Death as intended rather than going by percentages…

@@AN7HON7 Nintendo doesn't WANT it to be "fully skills" - it should be some skills with some injected variance. Nintendo running a tournament with items and hazards doesn't stop you or anyone else in the grassroots community from running their own events the way they want - which 99.x% of events already are. That's apparently not enough for some people who want that to be 100%. I agree with you on the GameCube controllers though.

It would be great if Nintendo also added the Zelda HD games (Twilight Princess and Wind Waker) and the 3ds games (Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask) on the Nintendo Switch Console, like they did with Miitopia (3ds), Super Mario 3D Stars (N64, Gamecube and Wii), and some games of Pokemon.
