I know why. The writer of the movie liked Street Fighter, but he always had troubles with Zangief, so to him, Zangief was a villain. Also! In the Street Fighter movie (which is fantastic for a different reason) he was one of M. Bison's lackeys.

This is ridiculously jazzy for a guy that pile drives people like rag dolls, and wrestles bears while jogging in the middle of a snow storm... I like it! Zangief's my favorite character in SF4. Didn't think it'd be so much fun to play as him. I still can't seem to land the Ultra Combo, but man that Super is just amazing: FINAL.ATOMIC.BUSTER!!!!
