Stick Foden on the left 'for the team sheet' however he can come in as a 10 and either Rice ir Bellingham can go on the left. Bellingham does this regularly at Madrid and Rice is decent at getting balls in from there. They would just need to be well rehearsed so they dont over commit and get caught out.

I think we saw the blue print to how we will play in the euros in the belgium friendly. Rice, mainoo, bellingham midfield with foden coming inside from the left wing to create a box midfield. Shaw/chilwell keeping the width on the left wing, saka on the right doing the same, and kane doing what kane does. Also I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that the defence is not the problem if they are all fit. Nearly every tournament, there is talk and debate about whether Maguire starts, but in 2018 world cup he was one of our best players, same goes for the euros, and even in the 2022 world cup where he was in awful form at club level, he wasn't at fault for any of the goals we conceded. Maguire is disrespected so much.

Plenty of top international teams have no problem playing youngsters. Brazil did it and beat England in the recent friendly. They often play with less fear, and are more unpredictable for the opposition. And England do have more experienced players to support them. If they are good enough, then they are old enough.

Foden doesn't perform as well for England as he does for City, as they dont play in the same way, so shouldn't be a shoe in imo. I would consider Gordon on the left wing, and maybe Foden and Bellingham in midfield, with Mainoo and Rice behind. That would leave a back three, changing to a back five .

@@raul_gonzalez1993 yes you can. Foden is far too isolated whenever he plays on the left. Plus you can’t play Bellingham the way Real Madrid play him, because he’ll be occupying spaces you want harry kane to be in.

Kane often like to drop, which actually can work perfectly with Bellingham making runs into the box, when Kane drags those centrebacks out of position by dropping deeper. In your solution you are limiting two players, Rice and Bellingham, and you still have to put in a left wing, where the option suck. So you are putting Rice in as a 6 in a single pivot. So basically he can only think about defensive duties, especially considering Foden and Bellingham will be going forward. Also you are changing to a single pivot for the first time right before tournament, basically all previous games were in a double pivot. A single pivot also means you don't really have a number 10 with freedom. Both Bellingham and Foden would be playing as 8s, limiting both of them. So now you have three brilliant players tied to handcuffs. This right here is exactly why England never won anything with their golden generation. They tried to force in as many good individuals, without actually looking how that would play together. Forcing Gerard, Scholes and Lampard into one midfield was England's downfall. Regardless of how good they were, they should have just dropped one and put like a Carrick behind them as a defensive mid. Which would give the other two more freedom to play how they like.

@LeeMassey87 I like this line up, my worry is though is that I think we need someone who is going to penetrate and play in behind more. Saka and Foden have a tendency to come to the ball and not stretch teams. Having one or the other is perfect but both could be an issue. Rashford in last seasons form would be ideal, but he isnt good enough to start at the moment.

Does Mainoo protect the defense enough though in that United midfield, in the 6 you’re very much part of that defensive unit, a defensive united in which United are pretty much conceding 25+ shots a game, sure there’s other reasons for that, but surely we have to question his role in that if we think he’s good enough to play that 6 role against some of the toughest midfielders and attacks in the world

I am going to be completely honest here, and the way Mainoo is appreciated by rival fans, I haven't seen in the last 10 years for a Utd player. Surely rival fans would be first to pounce at any chance at claiming a Man Utd player to be mediocre, even if he was good. He's gained this respect over 6 months quite naturally imo.

got moments of magic but his overall game has flaws, like losing his man diaz for the first goal, gave away the ball for the first chelsea goal, that’s back to back games being at fault for his team going 1-0 down. The only reason he’s suggested is because no one’s locked down that third cm position but his age and a number of factors point at him not starting. Called me biased but i think trent or curtis should start, trent might come off the bench for liverpool in midfield in the final games of the season because frankly bradley at RB has been better than any of our right centre mids or if curtis takes that position and does well contributing to winning us the league he could have a shout. That third cm doesn’t need to be incredibly talented all they need to do is press and make the simple pass which curtis is in the 99th percentile for, his whole game is non stop pressing until he wins the ball then passing to someone with more creativity, he’s got 90%+ passing ratio in almost every game he’s played

He didn't play great agaisnt liverpool although he scored a goal in the game which helped get a point. But if you rewind back to an even bigger game agaisnt liverpool in the fa cup, then you would have seen him run through liverpools midfield all by himself with bruno higher up the pitch and mctiminay playing as a second striker.
