It the Superboost WiFi booster a scam? That is how the email started and that got me curious - so I investigated it and things got super weird!

I used it for about a year. It worked fine, and was a real benefit to me in terms of speed. The native router was quite far, and its signal weak, so i was getting a lot of drop-outs. The repeater fixed that perfectly.

I was just curious about these because of seeing the ads so often that it has become annoying, and yes who doesn't want to boost their WiFi speed. My curiosity has been 100% dispelled now by your thorough and super-efficient analysis that I learned so much from right from the start such as right-clicking to check for stock photos. I live in Thailand, I have two of these Wifi extenders. One to extend wifi to my garage and I have one in the back bedroom both increased the wifi reception. Cost for one delivered 204 baht about $7 us.

@@glendye1535 First find out what your isp is giving you. If you rent your modem Find out if your modem is an old model or if they are offering a new modem. See if they can crank it up. if they are already giving you 100 mbps or better see if you are connected to the 5ghz band on your router. This band supports multiple connections and is faster than the2.4 band. You may want to run speed tests with your laptop plugged into the ethernet connection if you have one on your desktop.

If you can get your router installed in the middle of your property on the 1st floor of your house, you’ll notice better coverage. Imagine a bubble that surrounds your house and you’ll get the idea. Most common mistake is to shove it in the corner on a ground floor.

I just received mine in the mail today and was having trouble setting it up. Got all the way to where I needed to type in the password again for the final connect. I typed in the exact same one but it said it was wrong and could not connect. My computer shows that the repeater has a good signal. But I could never connect. So I come online to see if others are having issues, and here we are. At least you connected to test it. I appreciate the video.

A friend of mine got involved with a very similar product, but by a different name "UltraWIFIPRO". They offered a 30 day return, but assess you a 15% handling charge. Product didn't live up to the advertised and you're right, old technology. I had bad news for my friend, and they were out 15.00 bucks and the shipping to get the product back to the vendor. Very bad experience for my friends who thought I could fix this for them. So not a good experience. You're doing the public a great service.

@@yungmonkey6452 Check your modem. amazon will tell you the speed. If you rent one from a cable company. Get the latest one they have. Most modems have a signal test you can run. Poor signal is equal to poor internet. If a wired connection works fine and your laptop stinks you have a wifi issue.

Lol, as a wireless engineer for an University i would say to check the technology that the device is at, G only offer 54mbps, N 4550mbps AC 800mbps. Also those devices might not come with a roaming profile, meaning once you are with in range of the stronger router/AP/repeater your connection will drop and go to the strongest one so a call might disconnect

Thank you. Bought this, did the setup numerous times, thought I'd cracked it, tried to access the repeater network, it asked for a password, entered my home router password, wouldn't accept it. This has cost me so much time and£15 . Just logged in to Amazon where I purchased it, in order to return the product. Am now waiting for the seller to approve my refund, then I will post it back and wait for the refund. Hope the refund process isn't as awful as the product. Great review, don't know if you watch UK TV series Peepshow but you have a resemblance to Mark. If you don't, give it a watch it's hilarious and will help you wind down from a hard day's analysis and product reviewing.

I bought one a few months ago -- it is white, as packaged. When I ordered it, they said it would take up to a month to arrive. It did. The customer service when I called to inquire about it (about 3 or 4 days before the month, when I'd heard nothing) was not great, but they did respond to me via phone. I am using this as a booster for a Verizon MiFi hotspot where I have no reliable high-speed internet. I didn't experience the same problems you did. It is a minor improvement over no tool. Some of the set-up was a little different. It attaches to the WiFi/router name and adds "_Ext" to the end so you have the option of choosing the original or the "boosted" version. It's not great, but a minor improvement, so I feel disappointed but not completely ripped off.

I dumped my XFinity router modem, because it only covered 1/2 my house. Got a cheapo netgear modem and 3 Eero mesh network. Works fantastic. Costed $250 total but covers my whole 3200’ house easily and save $15 per month.

i bought one of these on ebay or alibaba a few years ago, approx $10-15. after a bit of tinkering, it went into a drawer, about 2 months ago, the wifi signal from my centurylink-suppled c3000a router/wifi died. ethernet ports still worked fine. i blew the dust off the $10 gizmo, and set it up as an access point, w/ same ssid n password as the router/wifi had used. very easy - 2mins. i disabled wifi output, and enet cabled the $10 gizmo to an enet port on the router. worked great. stronger signal than the original wifi. a $10 work-around, instead of $200 for a new centurylink-suppled c3000a/c3000z/w4000xg. please take care n stay safe.

About firmware. I find many are confused by the meaning of upload and download. The correct term for installing firmware is download. However, they show upload on their screen. I think if you had clicked on upload it would have download the firmware. This is bad copy-writing, but not necessarily bad customer support for firmware.

I've lost count of the number of clients I've visited complaining they have slow internet and it turns out to be a dodgy, knock off extender is the issue. One client had bought about 10 different ones off Wish and ebay with none working properly of course. I always carry a couple of TP-Link extenders and leave the client happy as larry.

I have one of those WIFI endoscope cams and the wifi range is pathetic, So bought one of these "boosters" to boost the signal. Putting the endoscope SSID and password into the booster was easy enough and I was pleased with my 20db increase in signal strength. Some time later the fixed endoscope job came to an end and I decided to extend another wifi signal with this booster/extender device. A factory reset seems to be the only way this could be done. But for some reason the factory reset button didn't have the desired effect. and my endoscope settings would not go away. Then the reset button disappeared leaving a small round hole. Thinking this was something I could fix I pulled the case apart and found that the reset button would never work because the switch it was supposed to operate was never installed on the circuit board. One day maybe I'll get brave and solder two pins into the holes where the switch should be and attach some metal foil to the back of the button..

This kind of thing always surprises me! In the UK we have a whole host of laws that protect the consumer. If you sell a product that violates, for example, the Trade Description Act, why aren't these vendors being prosecuted?

I can't speak on whatever ads you saw that say "booster" but mine says repeater on it, and looks identical to yours. They in no way are made to "boost" your wifi signal, they only act as access point or to spread the range of of you wifi to dead spots in your home. If you're getting lets say 80mbps from your ISP, then that the most you'll get from this product. If you have a firestick in a far room that keeps buffering, this thing will help stop that, but it won't increase the mbps.

My router produces 300+mbps wireless.... this product reduced it to 17mbps. This is no way a "super boost" to my wifi. Only sees 2.4ghz not 5ghz network.. This is a misleading ad spam email and now I need to pay to ship it back to the company and the company charges a restocking fee. Right away the representative said will give you 25% of what you paid I said no will return it. Outside of its technical claims, the device is only CE marked. For a direct plug-in to mains device I would HIGHLY recommend not to buy anything without an Nationally recognized testing laboratory (i.e. UL, CSA, MET) or National Certification Body mark like TUV SUD or TUV Rhineland in addition to the CE mark for product safety. While the CE mark does require that the manufacturer declare their product safe (among other CE marking directive like EMC and RoHS) it is a self-declaration and does not require evaluation and testing from an independent and accredited third party. So if this company were to make dubious claims about the the features and function of the device, how likely for them to make dubious claims about product safety compliance. I also noticed.. 2 prongs with no marking to denote a doubly insulated supply... yeah, that ain't plugging into my wall.

The Ad for this thing is ment to make it seem like this is the first wifi booster created. I can see why people think it's a scam from the get go with the methods they used to advertise it.

I bought it 😣 had y son hook it up. He did what you did and tested my download speed and it was actually faster, but not fast he said. Can you believe it? My internet provider is actually a bigger pos than this pos. It didn’t really help much and after a month I trashed it. You gave me A LOT of good tips in this video. Thank you

Great video! I didn't know that you could search images on Google to see if they are stock images; and moreover, that technique is actually pretty swift sleuthing. That method of sleuthing is not common sense to me.

When you use it as a WiFi repeater certainly there will drop in the internet speed as it uses same frequency in receiving and transmitting signal. It does not function as the WiFi extender which is dual band where it uses separate frequencies in receiving and transmitting signals. But it works fine when it is on the AP mode because it is wired thru LAN and transmits a separate WiFi connection.

The wording of adverts put me off instantly. You can't get "something for nothing": No "fancy" hardware can allow you faster access than what you signed up for with your ISP. Using it as an extender, the 300Mbps will be split into about 144Mbps uplink and 144Mbps downlink anyway. You might do better using it as access point. Unlike SuperBoost, I have found that well known names like TP-Link or Edimax are no more expensive and work fine. And just for fun: A friend gave me a used Ruckus AP unit. I'm now doing 1300MBps @ 5GHz through concrete walls.

Hi Lirón, I bought a "Super Booster" £40-£50, but, they Don't tell you that you need a "Router", which I didn't know, and, it Cost around £80,and I wasn't paying that as I am only "On my Phone".
