Supercapacitor Portable Battery Car Jump Starter | DOES IT WORK ? 🚘🚘🚘

I own one and have used it several times on motorcycles. It works great. If you do run your battery completely dead all you need is another car and use their 12v plug or their battery terminals then bring it over to your car when its charged. Also, it can be charged from a micro USB port. I used a small USB power bank to charge this jump starter. It took about 5min. I highly recommend this product.

One of the problems with the lithium based ones is that they get charged and stay charged. Lithium ion batteries are not long term storage, they are great for shorter term. A lithium battery stays healthy when you charge it, use it, then charge it again. Best life keeping it between 30-80% charged, as both ends of the spectrum decrease cycle life. Charging it to 100%, then letting it sit there for months in the truck of the car kills the battery, so when you need it, it appears fully charged to the controller (based on voltage) but does not have the capacity needed for working (battery drains very quickly). This eliminates that problem of long term storage expectation of a lithium battery.

I have a similar product, which is rated at 500A. It would not start my 103 cubic inch Harley Davidson V-twin, but did start a 1.5 litre Suzuki Swift (more cylinders, but smaller pistons, so easier to crank). I'm considering buying the AUTOWIT 1000A model for an extra unit to keep in the family. The good thing about the super capacitor jump starters is that you can never predict when you will need them. From when I bought my very first S/C jump starter, it was 3 years before I needed it. There was no way I could have kept a lithium battery jump starter on charge for this unpredictable day. Even after using my S/C jump starter, it gives me a wonderful sense of satisfaction, despite myself doubting that it can actually do the job. If the AUTOWIT 1000A can start a Harley Davidson, then I'll be happy.

Thanks for the review and I almost went out and bought this item yesterday morning when my car would not start due to I left the vehicle in the accessory mode overnight and drain the 12V battery down to even the interior light or power windows will not operate at all. After reading the PDF file of the car, I learned that because it is a HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) so before attempt to jump start the battery what I needed to do is to press the "12V Battery Reset" button next to the dash, step on the break, press the “START” button and to my surprise .... THE CAR "BOOST" THE BATTERY BY ITSELF!! According to the manual either driving or idling the car with or without the gas engine kicking in or not, as long as the vehicle's power in "POWER ON" status the onboard hybrid battery will take 30min to fully charge up the 12V battery in the engine bay. I may still buy one of this SuperCap for my regular ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) when Black Friday comes just for backup even I do have CAA.

Since it is not possible to create or destroy energy, the theory behind this device is that it transfers some of the remaining energy (watt-hrs) from the almost dead car battery to the capacitors. During this transfer some additional energy is lost to heat energy due to internal resistance. Once charged, the capacitor bank has a much lower resistance than the car battery so it is able to “give up” this energy in a very short burst (period of time). The voltage of the capacitor bank can never charge to a voltage higher than the almost dead car battery. The reason the car will start at this lower voltage with the capacitor bank and not the battery by itself is due to the low internal resistance of the capacitor bank. Simple ohms law and power equations.

FYI "solid-state" does not mean without chemicals. It generally means it's a semiconductor usually containing diodes or transistors, more specifically they have a junction between 2 or more N and P materials. So generally capacitors are not considered a solid-state device. You could say it is a static-state device I guess.

Good video. I just purchased one a few days ago. My battery was completely dead and unable to charge the unit. I charged the unit to 100% using the cigarette lighter from another car. The charging was within a few minutes and I thought good to go. Placed cable connections on dead battery and nothing. The unit never recognized the connection to the battery. Am I doing something wrong with the cable connection to the dead battery? Thanks.

Just a quick follow up. There isn’t any doubt that with a completely dead battery the Autowit will not work. The unit will not recognize the battery after battery clamps are applied. I called AAA to come and check the battery as it was still under the three year warranty. They determined the battery was fine along with my charging system. He used a Norco GB 150, 3000 amp jump starter and it worked flawlessly. I then tried my Autowit and the product worked as advertised. Since I don’t drive that car much, I will pick up a Norco 5 A trickle charger to prevent this from occurring again. Maybe even a GB 150 2000 amp unit and return the Autowit.

After replacing two lithium based jump starters when they were 2-3 years old and no it's time to replace one of those replacements at 2 years old. I'm looking into this as something new that could last longer. It's bad enough replacing the car battery every three years, replacing the jump starter also gets expensive.

These devices can only help if your battery is partially dead because it takes power from the battery. Worst case scenario is your battery is completely dead and this type will not work. The lithium battery chargers will.

Trick the shorting resistor to start up a dead battery! I bought this product and I found it won't start up with a completely draind battery. But search the video title on KZbin, "StartUp Engine with Autowit SuperCap2 & Smartphone without Car Battery" I hope you should try this way before you throw away this product!!

@@onenikkione I certainly hope so if I am stranded. But the last time I was stranded it wasn't the battery's fault; the terminals had corrosion on them and so the car would not start even though the battery was fine. There was no way I could clean the terminals in that remote location either.

They don't store a charge long term. When you need to use it, it'll charge from what's left of your battery. Or you can charge it from someone else's battery, and then put it onto your car.

Well, there are a lot of situations (we saw it in the video) where the battery is NOT DEAD, but just doesn't have enough voltage to make sparks in the ignition, or enough power to turn over the starter. This seems like it can save up enough charge for a few seconds of starting excitement, kind of an emergency thing. It might be something like a "charge pump" where the capacitors are charged one at a time, or in pairs or whatever, and then used all together. So it's putting the power you DO HAVE (there has to be some!) in a different format. I think an analogy might be where you move something with a long lever or pry bar.

@@Kitearmy i heard that it comes with a cigarette port charger, which if someone is around you can charge the Supercap and it has the necessary juice to start the car. That is, if there is someone around for you to charge it. I have a NOCO GB and it still wouldn't start a car battery measuring 4 volts. At that low voltage, you just need a new battery or something is really wrong with the charging system.

I still prefer lithium ion jump packs, especially the ones between 18,000 Mah and 32,000 Mah. They can jump start any car and work as a battery bank.

I just ordered the Autowit SuperCap 2 from amazon. The reason I didn't get a lithium ion jump start device is you have to make sure you keep them charged. Also, lithium ion batteries in a hot car do not mix. Could be dangerous. I also ordered a Autool BT-460 battery tester. It tests battery health, starter, charging system and max load. Between these two items, I've got things covered!
