To me, this is the sweet spot. You have a modernized classic car that looks original, but isn’t. It is comfortable, the interior is mostly stock looking, but it’s nicer. You have a 442 that is better handling and much faster than the original, but it’s still a 442. With the highly upgraded suspension and the size of the car, the 600+ hp is not overpowering it. Love it.

I had a 1972 Olds Cutlass S. Very similar body. Noticeably different tail lights. Mine was a basic 350 v8 model in a similar metallic paint colour. I loved that car. It had all the right bones to be turned into a 442 replica. It was just a really nice car. I think those mid-sized GM ‘S were the perfect body size. They could be sporty and comfortable, with plenty of interior room for four and enough trunk space for summer holidays.

I feel the same. My Dad had one back when he was young and said he didn't really feel excited about the looks and performance. He loved his Comet though. I like the looks of a 442 WAY more. I think Mercury Cougars, the XR7's especially, are slept on too. That'll be my first true, show class restomod if I ever get one. Everyone has a Camaro or a Mustang or a Chevelle or an Impala... I’ll tell you right now it’s not crazy at all. I had a 1955 Chevy build that I was going to do a full overhaul on with an LT4/Tremec/rolling chassis and I hit a $100k just in parts. That’s not counting paint/brakes/tires/wheels/fuel system/wiring etc. Then you add a custom made interior and custom fab parts? Pffff you’re looking at crazy money just in parts! The biggest though - LABOR. 1,000 hours at $100/hr is conservative where I live. Full resto can easily hit 1500 hrs.
