I understand why the questions are asked. I’ve heard stories ( if I remember it was a whipple and a VMP) where the blowers were shipped out without oil in them. Now maybe they were used or maybe they had been rebuilt or something, but the stories where that they were empty and locked up. People advised me to check my new VMP Gen3 and sure enough it had the oil in it and the little paint mark on the fill plug from the factory assuring it was marked after filled. I believe the Gen3 for the terminators were made at Roush? Manguson was later like you said with the Gen3R

Thanks Justin! The Gen3R / fuel system is almost complete on my Terminator! Been some VMP Gen3 and Gen3R’s Putting times down some impressive numbers at my local tuner. Either in a torco tune or 93 pump. Both at 21psi both broke 700whp despite the summer heat

Thanks for the Info Justin. I actually asked when I bought my Gen3R & was advised it's factory filled. Very happy with my Gen3R over the last year & VMP customer service... Thanks 🍻

I watched a video where a guy replaced around 1oz of the oil with motorkote hyper lubricant, and did heat tests with and without the additive. There was a great reduction in temperature. I would think that's a good thing to help prevent heat soak yeah?

One thing I would like to suggest even though this is a great video is that we can discuss the actual weight of the oil because an emergency if someone needed to use synthetic motor oil or something like that they could at least get away with it until they were able to get the preferred lubricant.
@VMPPerformanceTV Жыл бұрын
The last blower that came through the shop that someone put engine oil in was absolutely ruined. You need to run the proper lubricant in a TVS supercharger. It's just not an option.

A while ago, when I got my used Gen2R 2.3L TVS, I based my oil refill off of a write up on SVT forums. Guy said that for TVS superchargers, you fill up to the fill hole. Good to know that isn't how it should be! Glad I haven't romped on my supercharger too much with so much extra in there. Gonna have to refill with proper 5.5oz

My buddy has gen3r and some knuckleheads at a shop added more oil to blower after receiving from vmp. Justin said any more than 4oz in gen3r will overheat and possibly damage it. His shop added oil till it ran out of hole. So far he says its ok, but who knows as miles add up.
@VMPPerformanceTV3 жыл бұрын
We'd recommend that he drain and then fill it properly. The potential for damage with expansion is not worth it.
@VMPPerformanceTV3 жыл бұрын
You can use a syringe with a small hose or something similar to drain it.

It’s whale oil!! I changed the oil on my 3800 SSEi back in ‘99. Straight from the GM Parts Counter. Just say, “Moby Dick”.

This was good information that I needed to know. But I swear my phone can read my mind. I was just thinking about my Eaton M 90 on my Pontiac and wondering when was the last time I changed the oil and what did I use and how much did I use. Good video.

For 99% of owners these blowers are essentially maintenance free. OE level quality = OE level endurance.

How many miles/years is OEM supercharger oil good for? Thanks VMP 🏁🏁🏁
@VMPPerformanceTV3 жыл бұрын
For street driven cars, we've seen 100k miles with no issues. It really depends on your usage. Cars that are solely race cars/competitive cars will check/refresh the oil much more often.

You guys and the comments seem to know your superchargers. I have a question for anyone with related experience: I had a stock Mercedes blower with 160k start making a grinding, scraping noise. I did the bearing on the blower pulley, but the noise kept going (maybe a bit quieter and less frequent). What do y’all think that could be about? I’m thinking some sort of internal bearing, but I never took anything apart, I just sold the car. Still wondering about it though.
@VMPPerformanceTV Жыл бұрын
Aside from the bearings in the nose, there's internal bearings located in the bearing plate at the opposite end of the rotors as well. Without seeing the supercharger, it's hard to say specifically what's going on, but a disassembly and inspection would likely reveal play there as well.
@silververt5.0583 жыл бұрын
Does this also apply with using the roush blower?

So 3.4oz for the Gen3 and 5.5oz for the smaller 2.3 VMP blower? Same amount whether it's going on a terminator or GT500?
@VMPPerformanceTV2 жыл бұрын
All may use the lesser amount, it is backdateable
@maximusvonce13813 жыл бұрын
Justin told me don't add any oil to my new gen3r blower. Comes with 4oz, and any more will cause blower to run hot. He said it comes pre filled and dont touch it.

How often should you change the oil? I just purchase a mustang that has 21,000 miles on it
@VMPPerformanceTV Жыл бұрын
Supercharger oil needs attention much less frequently, if at all. This is because, unlike engine oil, it is not exposed to contaminates. On street driven/daily drivers, they'll likely ever see the mileage/extreme use that would require a change unless there's a leak or a problem that requires disassembly to repair.
@dalethaxton9862 Жыл бұрын
@@VMPPerformanceTV I just purchased a 2022 mustang GT Premium package with the Rousch. It was 21k on it and want to make things we’re taking care of with oil

How many miles is the oil good for in the gen3r. When should it be replaced? Love you guys. Vmp for the win. Best superchargers ever.
@VMPPerformanceTV3 жыл бұрын
It can vary a bit depending on your use of the vehicle. A general rule is 100k miles with basic street/casual use. It's rather resilient.

Street cars can typically go up to 100k miles without having to service this oil at all. It's high heat/abuse applications such as a race program that'll service this system more frequently.

I was going to buy one of these in 2020 for my 1990 Mk2 Golf 1.8l 8v G60 Edition 1 Wolfsburg till I found out they aren’t available in the UK, Costs £650 to import one, The noise they make is horrendous & loud, There a massive pain in the ass to mount unless unless you own a garage, Good with metal work which I’m not it just seems they are designed for the UK market unless you’re loaded, Typical of!

What if the gears get damaged in case of there’s no oil
@VMPPerformanceTV2 жыл бұрын
The supercharger would need to be inspected and rebuilt as it would've been exposed to extreme heat in both the gears and bearings. Diagnosis of where the oil went would need to be performed so that it does not occur again.

Is it true that this is sperm whale oil?
@rileyneufeld70013 жыл бұрын
Doubt it. Probably a synthetic or semi synthetic blend 5-20 5-30 weight oil. Sperm whale oil in the grand scheme of things synthetic oil will outperform it in pretty much everything.

Not anymore, BUT early automatic gearboxes DID use Whale oil as it is one of the purest oils, now of course replaced by modern synthetic spec. Bonus , less dead whales. Doing some searching i believe AIR COMPRESSOR oil is the same spec as Supercharger oil, (well it is an aircompressor) and a lot cheaper for a lot more in a bottle. I go for the FULL synthetic one
