@clunie garage - Kong performance has a lsa upgrade to replace the factory blower from 1900cc to 2650cc And they also have their new dual pass billet intercooler lid which is a mega piece of engineering! For your supercharged rig on the track I would hit up Forced induction Technologies and enquirer about their inter chiller kits which keep your intake temps below ambient - ensuring as you drive around the track your efficiency in continuously creating peak horsepower is retained and no thermal heat soak is experienced

Good informative video, for me a blast from the past to. I was in that VR Clubby at 5:33 a few times , he was into real estate from memory and mates with my mate....it was stupid fast back then and I was in owe of that car. You have a picture blue SS hatch on your shed walI, also remember going to the house of the owner of that blue SS Torana during its build, he lived in Queanbeyan and initials were WW from memory. Bloody nice Torana and worth some big $$ now I suspect. On a side note I was tossing up between a Harrop 2300 from my VE SSV but ended up going with a full bottom end engine build, monster F35 cam, PRC heads etc etc. Love forced induction my whole life, but strangely changed paths for some reason.

I think you could do a couple more in depth vids on this topic. Like, how does it affect the cars computer? Do you need to get an aftermarket tuner like HP or Holley? Do you need to have forged internals? Why do most car manufacturers install Eaton superchargers but when adding a SC most are looking at whipple, magnuson, and harrop in AU? What's with the "dont do it for dale?" Is that a nod or a slam to cleetus?
@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
G'day Eddie, we will look to do a follow up video in the future, thanks for the tip. A couple of quick answers for you in the meantime. Once you add the supercharger hardware, you will need to increase your fuel delivery through either bigger injectors and fuel supply delivery. This will need to be tuned through the ECU and in many cases you can use the standard factory ECU in late model Holden Commodres. Forged internals are not entirely necessary unless you are looking at massive boost and in those cases you should be looking at lower compression pistons, head studs, ring gaps and a whole lot of other mods. If you are looking at conservative boost (5-8 psi), a healthy standard engine is normally OK. Car manufacturers like GM typically use eaton twin screw rotating assemblies in their factory superchargers in models such as the HSV GTS and Camaro ZL series. You will actually find that popular supercharger manufacturers like Harrop also use eaton twin screw components inside their blowers. The "Do it for Brocky" is a huge nod to Cleetus and call for all car enthusiasts to remember the king of the mountain in the same way US enthusiasts remember Dale E.

G'day, we safely ran our L77 engine on 8-10 psi for over two years. Key thing is to have an appropriate tune and fuel delivery. These blowers aren't like turbos in terms of bending rods. Of course the pistons and lifters will soon let you know if you are pushing too much boost!

10 to 16K LOL More like 25K thats with all up labour and full exhaust and tune etc., then add the cam and heads which adds at least 150Kw easy above the 400KW, but is it worth it on a stock engine ye if you going to just rev it here or there, but for drags and st hi end type driving, so no more than the speed limit total waste of money if you ask me, even if i had the cash i would not do it, basically each to their own, like my redline its stock and i am keeping it stock which are asking more than what i paid for it now, over 50K and thats one with over 90K on the clock even Redbook values have gone up over 5 k just from last year values, as soon as you do it up ie: supercharger the new buyers always know it was thrashed and you never get your money back on those mods no matter which car it is?
@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
G'day, when we first fitted the 2300 Harrop bolt on supercharger to the L77 in the VF Redline, it was $16k drive in and drive out. That included a HSV diff gear set and new bushes. We already had the other mods fitted (e.g. otr, headers).

@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
G'day Zed, it all comes down to your budget, power output expectations future plans and whether you have already performed mods to your L77. I started modding my L77 and then put the 2300 Harrop on it. Transformed the car. However, if I had my time again, and I hadnt started modifying the L77, I would probably go for a brand new LSA. No DoD to deal with, you can run moore boost with lower comp pistons and you have a very special combo out of the crate.

I'm on the other fence I think your bang for buck isn't that good their are limits to those supercharges I'm currently about to jump in the boosted camp but for the $18k+ $1500 set ups for hp gain isn't that great if I paid the $20k to set up my VE and supercharger and I took it to the drags and got beat by a turbo Barra I wouldn't be a happy camper, so I've been looking in to both and it keeps coming up that a turbo is a better and cheaper way to go I can put an s498 98mm turbo on my ve for a whisker over $6.5k, and still have enough left for a 413 stroker, a haltech and be pretty easy 800-900hp 9 sec pass and I've done my homework on it and the harrop 2300 and 2650 aren't to best ones to get, so I'm mulling it over quite a lot, food for thought
@jordankennedy18933 жыл бұрын
If you want real horsepower with reliability you should change the cast pistons and rods for forged. (Stoc k rods are powdered forged not real forged)
@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
G'day Jordan, yes forged pistons and rods are good ideas if you are looking at adding lots of boost. As is a iron block.
@angry99013 жыл бұрын
I have not seen any rod failures, if the piston falls apart it results in rod damage. Most issues seem to be with the pistons and a large amount of them are from not enough ring gap.
@Dan-rg7jj3 жыл бұрын
Gen 3 rods are the problem and the knock due to not having a floating pin design. Gen 4 are fine, but like said already it's the pistons. Actually the rods are a problem because they aren't a 6.125" stroker length😉
