I’ve been watching your channel for about two months. I love your videos. I am new to wet shaving. (2months) I wanted to try straight razor shaving after watching you. I got a cheap $10 shavette and after the first shave I knew it was what I wanted to do. After buying a Dovo Bismarck I decided I want to start honing… boy did I not know those stones cost so much. So for now I’m just watching videos to make sure I want to dive into it. I started my own channel not long after watching you and a few others. I had always wanted to create content on KZbin but never knew what to do. After watching you and others I knew instantly what I wanted to do. Now I have no idea about video editing. All I can do for now is crop the beginning and ending of my videos. I am a one take or nothing kinda guy 😂. I’m verrrrrrry guilty of saying uhhhh or ummmmm😅. I want to thank you for your videos and inspiring me to start a channel. Thank you for pouring your wisdom into your videos. Have a great day!

Hey guys, this sentiment that the forums are suppose to be some sort of haven for free exchange of ideas in an atmospheres of honesty and goodwill is why I’m no longer in full- time ministry. Don’t be naive… from the church, to the university, to legislatures, to the public square, discussions are no longer about ideas and truth, but… (wait for it)… POWER and DOMINATION, and MONEY. Good humor, Bill! You got my vote.

Those types of comments are what have made me stop going to the forums as often. They are supposed to be a place where everyone can discuss different topics but you can clearly see a preference by the moderators and those that have been in them for a long time. The conversation always ends up going from the curved honing into hating on specific people in the space that made the method known. Even when presented with the fact that razor makers use curved hones or wheels then they start hating on the manufacturers like has been the case with dovo and thiers recently. Anyways Bill! Great video, I hope you have a good week. Cheers!

Thanks for your support Sean. I do have some experience with the battles on this topic. One guy found out I was invited to a shave buddies house and sent him private messages to be cautious around me because I’d try to convert him. When one guy defended my right to discuss and present my experiences publicly, he got nasty messages calling him a Judas. I think I still have copies of those messages but never made them public out of respect for my friend. All the signals were there for the malicious intents of this guy.

I've been using the 3P pre/post shave a lot recently, then again after buying a 500ml tub of it I guess I have to. I always wash with a pre-shave soap or other glycerin soap first though no matter what I do next.

Brandon's channel's bereft of content... shocker! This super curve stuff's so incredibly threatening to so many guys like Brandon because they've never really touched the concept of the *shape* of the edge in all their years of e-discussion/debate, prior to the concave bevel stuff back-and-forths were on abrasives, strokes, maybe angles of the blade to the stone...but [flat] shape was the one constant. The 'micro-convex' pasted stropping theories were dipping the toe in to the pool at best, but the difference between those and wheel shaped whetstones is like the difference in shooting a bullet and throwing one.

Can confirm not threatened by the convex hones, at all... Sorry to burst your bubble. All of you who think maintaining a functioning edge on a personal hygiene item is a competition for a position in some sort of imaginary competence hierarchy is actually hilarious. You take yourselves so damn seriously I could almost pity you, key word being "almost." It is fun critiquing you because I know you losers take yourselves so seriously, and your overly sensitive emotional effeminate nature will illicit a wildly funny and entertaining response. Then I get to roast the ever living crap out of you.

Do you have any smiling razors? They are a bit kinder to use under your chin and neck. They work around the curvy parts of your face nicely. The Stirling's Satsuma is a great scent, sweet like orange pop-cycles. Pharo's Dream is another good one. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for watching. I often find a greater tendency to see blood if I am not shaving right after a shower. The hot towel treatment helps there…if I do it. I don’t have much in the way of smiling razors. If the right Sheffield item comes up one day, maybe. I do have a couple GoDallah models with smiles, A real hassle to hone due to the “unsmiling” spine. The vanilla was a bit stronger than I liked on Pharoh’s Dreamcicle, so I never went past a sample size.

Don’t feel bad about cutting your chin, Lol oh boy I made a huge mistake last week I went to flick some shaving cream off my right hand that was tickling my ear and was holding my freshly stropped razor upright in my left hand and whacked my pinky finger right in my razor!!! I had to rock the blade back and forth to dislodge it from my bone!!! Omg the worst part was I just started shaving and had to finish because I didn’t want to go to the hospital half shaven 😂 also I’ve never seen or heard of anyone using an oil stone to sharpen a straight razor but maybe that’s what the guy did to my razors who I bought them to get sharpened, they all came back screwed right up and the shaves were all horrible they were much better before they were honed by the guy! I wasted my money big time but is that a thing? Using an oil stone?
@wayneholmes637
@wayneholmes637 5 ай бұрын
I don't think it matters much. The oil should help get a finer edge from a not so fine stone. The grits used and how much pressure is applied is what matters. In theory you could use nothing but leather strops and various compounds. When I was a regular straight razor shaver the only reason I used waterstones was because that is what I had for my Japanese carbon steel cooking knives.

Prying the razor from your finger and then finishing the shave…epic! Sorry you had that injury. Commonly novaculite stones use oil. I use Ballastol on my Arks due to the miscible properties with water dilutions.

And it seems some people just have to be dicks and don’t understand how to be cordial and just get along it’s usually a characteristic that has been instilled into them their whole lives and it gets worse the older they get 😂 but imagine their home life and their poor partner 😮😅 if they manage to have kept one😄 “oh well whatever” is my attitude is my attitude towards them now….sticks and stones
