If they really wanted to accomplish the task of having most of the people that are here unlawfully leave the country, they could do that relatively easily, with little expense. They could go after all of the banks who issue any mortgages, loans or open bank accounts for ppl unlawfully present. They could prosecute landlords who don’t verify citizenship before renting. They could Withhold DOT funds from states who issue IDs or DLs to ppl here unlawfully. They could Go after employers who fail to verify citizenship etc etc. No wall necessary and really no significant deportation operation necessary. It would be so hard to live here that they would leave on their own. They have already pursued that method for multiple other issues like the mob, dui, and child support etc. They already know how to do it, so the fact that neither party has done it, indicates that both parties want them to be here. I’m not partisan, I’m simply interested in the logic of the issue.
