my pop started out driving log truck in the mountains of Northern California back in 67.I went with him on a few runs when i was 7 years old and that was a blast.He rolled it of a 500 foot canyon one day in 75 and that was enough for him.He was 22 at the time.He's had a few accidents since then but been a driver for 46 years.Hauls wood chips up in northern California now,In and out of Redding California and White city Oregon.He is the best.He hasn't had an accident since the 70s.I love my dad.

you're an awesome kid then haha. are you a son or a daughter? It probably doesn't matter but I ask anyway. im a son. my old man isn't a trucker but my brother is. he retired from driving recently he's only 34 but he wants to do other things. im trying to be a trucker for ups but they're making it really hard for me. ill probably eventually go over the road somewhere else. California, Oregon, Washington are dream drives for me. definitely want to drive through there. im in NJ and there isn't many rural woodsy areas here but PA and upstate NY are pretty awesome.

Good ole Western Star, 1st built in Kelowna BC, they were eyeing the logging market, then bought out, Kenworth, Pacific, Hayes and Mack made some great 16' bunk size truck, loved driving those beasts, some 14 ' had 5and 4 tranny's, lots of folk don't even know what that is. and no air, 500 gallon water tank behind cab for cooling brakes, look em up, that driving.

I'm actually surprised the truck is a 10 speed. I first thought maybe a 15 but I didn't see the deep reduction switch on the side. Awesome video and nice shifting
@SuperDriver3794 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Most often with short haul under 80K I never found the need for more than 10, most of the time unloaded I’ll only hit 6-7 even in a truck with 18 gears in a box.
@EZNowTrucker4 жыл бұрын
@@SuperDriver379 very true. Always get a laugh at the bobtail o/o going through all 18 gears so the other drivers know how many gears they have. I've been stuck with a Cascadia with a DT 12 autoshift lately. Beautiful truck but the autoshift never knows what gear it wants
@SuperDriver3794 жыл бұрын
Every automatic transmission I drove thought the engine needed to be at 2,200 on the tachometer all the time, like they didn’t tell them peak torque was under 1,500...
@EZNowTrucker4 жыл бұрын
@@SuperDriver379 the Cascadia that I drive was detuned from 505 to 400 HP and the performance mode in the transmission was deleted at companies request so pulled a hill it won't shift down til 1000rpm and will skip every second gear regardless of weight. Then when you use manual mode you don't get your fuel bonus but your truck most likely will end up at the shop. And warming up in winter time is frowned upon too. Waste of fuel apparently. If you have a/p haul ass.

Thanks for video I always start with low low when I am loaded and keep the trans axle locked till hit the paved road and you shouldn't fully lock the axles if it is nice and dry, it is hard on bushings.. 10 speed is not enough for heavy loads like logging. we use 550hp or more and 18spd, we haul 63000kg up to over 80000 kg .

Hold on lmao. Do both so you have options. Logging is fun as hell, but depending on where you live, there’s different challenges you must face. If you live on the West Coast states, you must face twisting and winding roads up mountains. On the east coast, there are bogs and mud holes, and sometimes the roads aren’t built good so you have to go 15mph through a 10mi road. Plus the long hours. Trucking is fun and there’s money in it, but you gotta be up to the challenge you may face

I only have 1 experience close to logging, me and my dad we’re getting a log grabber thing on wheels and the truck was a 2000 t800 with a fuel turned 550 cat with 3:90s and I’ve never seen a truck break lose before then on Georgia clay
@johnnyholland87657 жыл бұрын
I did that in the mid eighties with a CL9000 Ford with a 425 Cat 3406 and a 13 speed. Got drug in and drug out many times in the Georgia red clay. Man if you got 500 hp get you some better tires and use it.
@slr379x96 жыл бұрын

I started at 16, I’m 28 now started in a 2 1/2 ton truck and a 6 speed Mack it put food on my table until I decided being home more often was important, now I have 3 bulldozers a 120C JD and an old Allis Grader leave home at 8 back by 6, having kids changes what’s important, but if driving is something that you’re passionate about, it’s a multi billion dollar a year industry. And it’s not going away any time soon.
