I'm not ashamed to admit that this video brought a tear to my eye. Congratulations Dave that is so cool. I have had the honor of seeing you progress in the sport. Thank you, David! I have a Moster also, since April. Very interesting to hear, that it is so strong! I plan to buy the Flash Cruiser also! ( I once had the old "Flash", former version). Later I had the ECO 2 with a Simonini Victor- engine on it. It was the same Trike, only a bit heavier and bigger. But I still am much more convinced of the smaller equipments. They fit better to my purposes. If you once need a bigger/stronger engine for your Flash, I can recommend the Simonini MINI 3. I have it with a 150cm HELIX- Prop. Very strong! (But you need a battery for the MINI3, as it has no pull starter).

What motivates me most about starting paramotoring is to bring friends to that experience doing tandem. I also think this is very important since it is a very niche sport and noone is doing it at my place, which can quickly make it to a lonely sport if I only end up doing solo flights. If my end goal is to do tandem, should I go straight ahead and buy tandem equipment in terms of scaling wings, motor and trike or should I take it step by step by first buying solo flying equipment and then scale up? I am afraid it will be quite more expensive doing the latter approach.
@David_Wolfe2 жыл бұрын
No you should definitely start with all of your gear flying solo. You need at least 100 hours flying before you should even consider learning to do tandem. One Up Adventures requires 100 hours flying. You can always sell your other gear. Take your time with a Sport and enjoy the journey

Obviously there is a significant weight difference between your daughter and your father in law. Were you having to change hang points when swapping between them? If so, how are you doing that on the fly? Thanks!
@David_Wolfe3 жыл бұрын
Yes I have an Allen wrench in my side pocket. There are clamps that are adjusted on the top bar depending on the weight of the passenger. I simply slide them down to where they go. I’ve marked different weights for the passengers on the bar so I know specifically where to put them.

Nice video David! How long did it take you to adjust from using a mirror on launch, to not using one? You seem to have mastered the art of looking at the glider instead of a mirror with your new tandem trike. As I gain more experience with my trike, I'm thinking about removing my mirror. I'll likely never switch to a tandem trike myself. Thanks for sharing.
@David_Wolfe4 жыл бұрын
James Robinson great question. No time at all. Rather than looking up for the glider to come in to view I just watch it coming up on my left and when it looks like it is stable in the right area I check it on my right. If it looks good it’s go baby go!!!!

@@David_Wolfe Good to know, thanks David!

Foot pilots are more used to no mirror. Its simply a matter of looking over your shoulder to the tip(s) and checking it/them in reference to the horizon. I've never had a mirror on my trike, I bet it would be odd for me. No mirror means no glare back in your face from the sun and better flight view.

Why does one need "certification" to fly tandem? The FAA granted an exemption to the USHPA which if you are not a member then how does any of this apply? To me it is kind of like a person being a highly proficient PPG pilot and not be "certified" as PPG3 rated. Not trying to stir the pot and I know that FAR103 expressly states that PPG flight is solo only. Also, why are people getting "certified" as tandem flyers if pretty much everyone is going to ignore the requirement in the exemption that states: "3. Both occupants on all two-place training flights must possess a current pilot rating issued by the USHPA...". How many times will this be followed? I understand that training = safety but this seems to be to be a USHPA scam to increase their prestige. Good on em I guess...
@David_Wolfe4 жыл бұрын
Brent Benson Great questions but I’m not sure if I’m the one that could answer them. My guess is that hang gliding and Paramotors are two different aircrafts. Much like someone who has a private pilots license for a fixed wing and someone flying a Paramotor. They are two different physical activities that require to different types of training.
@justbrentbenson54194 жыл бұрын
@@David_Wolfe I'm just wondering if the exemption is worth pursuing. If you've gone through the training and if in the unlikely chance that you are questioned by an FAA person, you would still most likely be busted when the FAA person asks to see your daughter's USHPA's pilot's credentials...
@David_Wolfe4 жыл бұрын
Brent Benson for me, it was not worth taking a change of losing my equipment but more importantly I wanted the training to be confident in myself as well as the my passengers/students confidence in me.
@justbrentbenson54194 жыл бұрын
@@David_Wolfe More training is always the best choice and I applaud you for it but if you really don't want to take the chance to lose your equipment, you'd better make sure ALL your passengers are fully licensed USHPA pilots... Please know that I am joking with you. I am just trying to make the point that since the USHPA is a private organization and not part of the government it holds no legal sway over anyone. the USHPA or the US Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association has little if anything to do with Powered Paragliding other than sharing airspace. It could be argued that the tandem rules they have been given by the FAA applies only to that type of flying and Powered Paragliding remains in the wild west of lawlessness: i.e., FAR 103 states our sport to be a solo sport but people still fly tandem... I dunno, it is all so confusing... Thanks for your time and fly safe my brother!
