Okay, I am a little over a year into guitar playing. I've learned basic chords, how to barre, sus chords, and etc. It had frustrated me to really understand what the CAGED System is and how it works. I know it’s not good of me to watch artists and not subscribe etc to everyone and show support, but this lesson made me hit subscribe. Far from a beginner player and I’ve picked up more advanced things being “self taught” but it sometimes leaves holes in my skill set or one skill set compensates for another like my good ear training helps with my shitty rhythm(working on it) but for some reason the couple of times I tried to learn the caged system from a book, I couldn’t get it. Also it didn’t click from a couple other well known teachers on here or a couple people in person for some reason…I started learning/remembering where root notes of chords are some time ago and I decided to give this video a glance and it clicked! I still have books to study it but this made whats in the book understandable. Sometimes just playing songs and forgetting about theory is good but I know, knowing theory is what puts a player on another level. I have the range of motion to play advanced chords but couldn’t instant this until now. Thanks!

13:48 that's my problem right there ... Logically if we follow the pattern the barre should be placed on 10th fret but why u placed it on the 9th fret :) it happens only with the C form only rest all are fine ... technically the root note gets barred and then open chords are played following the CAGED ... I also barre the 10th fret and always get confused haha

Very interesting,not easy though. And something I don’t understand,if you put the capo somewhere,leave one fret open and make a g shape,I thought you played a g but I think you said it’s a c? 🤨 I’m so sorry,don’t want to be a pain but I just don’t get it. 😕
@leejohnblackmoremusic
@leejohnblackmoremusic 5 жыл бұрын
You must learn all the notes on the bottom E string and learn all the notes on the A string. Whenever you move a chord from the open position up the fretboard, with or without a capo, the name will always change because the notes change. It might look like a G chord but because we've moved it from its original place its name has changed, in the example in the video it has changed to a C chord, purely because the first note (the root) has changed from a G note to a C note.
@leejohnblackmoremusic

Don't worry at the moment if you still don't get it. I promise you I didn't get it the first time round either. As you progress as a musician, and as you become more familiar with the fretboard things will become much clearer. Honestly I didn't use the caged system for a long time I used a different system but now with my knowledge I see the power of the caged system. Just give it time keep playing and I promise you it will become clear.👍🎸

Super Easy Guitar | Lee John Blackmore Thank you so much for your extra explanation. So I’m not going to worry to much about the caged system. But the thing is,when I have to use a capo,like on your video of “what’s up” from 4 non blondes,and I have to play a g chord,I leave one fret open from the capo and play the g form,right?
@leejohnblackmoremusic
