I think an excellent idea that's not been done is a hybrid rock crawler. You need a lot of torque and control, but only for brief periods, so a small motor/generator should keep it charged up. Think motorcycle engine. Have all 4 wheels independently powered so you can tank steer. Maybe it doesn't even need to have steerable front wheels- think how much stronger that would be. No steering, U-joints, etc....just a bar "axle" with an electric motor on each end. This is the future.

I like the idea of turbine driven generator electric car thing. To make things easier you could use a MEP 362 military generator which is a turbine 5 KW generator. install it in something big enough to tow all your other creations like a M1078 with a Tesla drive unit at each end, Or maybe just a Ram 3500 4x4. Could really give your Toy a run for it’s money. Maybe even give team Kamaz the single digit salute?

@@frongicideSo, if your so smart and nay say things what’s your solution? Negativity is what is wrong with you and the world at large. He is a good engineer im sure he can figure it out and make it work.
@lasskinn474
@lasskinn474 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewdunagan4491 a big turbine is a bit harder to handle. A bike engine would do a bunch of power(enough if you can charge with it and have batteries as a buffer, enough to keep it going highway speed anyway which the 5kw can't) but the generator control and electricity flow control electronics get tricky. 5kw turbine electric locomotive could work better than you'd think though, being slow doesn't matter as much witj a locomotive and electric makes transmission of the power to high torque easier than some gearboxes and clutches

How many Tesla drive units would 5KW comfortably supply? Would there be any need for a battery pack? I'm very curious about how this could work out.
@emmajacobs5575
@emmajacobs5575 Жыл бұрын
@@stephentroyer38315 kW sounds like a lot, but it’s really not - Tesla drive units go from about 220 kW upwards, so the turbine generator could supply 0.02 of a drive unit. Except it’s even less because that 220 kW is the power *output* - you need to put a bit more electricity in, because the motor isn’t 100% efficient.

In the UK Johnny Smith took a weird little electric car called an Enfield 8000 built in tiny numbers in 1970s with just 8 hp and souped it up a bit in 2016 and called it Johnny's Flux Capacitor. Just a mild power upgraded to what was claimed to be approaching 1,000 hp. It's just 9 feet long, street legal and has run a 9.86s second quarter miles. Of course, that's now somewhat overshadowed by the bonkers McMurtry Spéirling (also street legal), which has posted a 7.97 quarter on road tyres on a race track (not a prepared drag track). The latter is a professional job, Johnny's was a one-off. However, he's still alive so that's promising.

See I think most people would argue that finishing your existing projects is the responsible thing to do, but I'm not sure that's really the case. 1) A lot of those tedious little things to finish up don't really make good KZbin content, or at least have a high ratio of work to good content. 2) I think there's a lot of anticipation for many viewers as to when you will get back to their favourite project, or even what the heck the next video will be at all. Not having any idea what you might be in for when KZbin notifies you of the new SuperfastMatt video (heck it could even be something random, like comparing a Model T to a Tesla) is part of the character of the channel. 3) Would it even be SuperfastMatt if a project for completed? Double Duc does have a third conceptual model that could work, two differentials. Drive the first inversely, two inputs to spin the carrier gear, then link carrier gear 1 to carrier gear 2, where the second diff outputs to the belt drives. You'd need to offset the engines and transmissions to align this setup to the original sprockets, or you could just cut out the original transmissions and shoehorn one in between the two differentials. Or, stemming from this, bind the two engines together at the crank, that way they're forced to be in sync minus whatever torsion the rod experiences. This is how engine platforms are literally built anyways, smallest working unit that's then scaled to a higher cylinder number. Same transmission setup as before, shoehorn one in that can handle the power. Either way, you do need a differential driving the wheels, for obvious reasons. Mechanical simplicity is the best option here, rather than trying to sync motors or transmissions with sensors, which could just as well produce oscillations, which will be a whole other headache to solve. The inverse differential solution is better if you don't have the engines linked with a solid crank, but slightly more complex and more bulky. Of all of these ideas, the trikes seem like the most likely to win out from all aspects. Cheaper, easier, etc. Double Duc is doable with some work. Tesla Trike is interesting, but might be better off as a tadpole (reverse trike) rather than a delta. Caravan trike would also be fairly simple, just a body extension with a camper shell on it. RC Smart Car is also a more reasonable project, but doesn't feel very inspired, might make a good one-off video for some fun within an enclosed course, but I don't think a lot of people would find it super interesting. Every other project is just expensive or too complex, and would add to the already-existing pile of incomplete projects, or they'd just be a one trick pony, similar to the RC Smart Car's issue, where they just don't have a ton of overhead for the amount of work and money put into them.

Top gear and the grand tour converted many cars for off road use, many were terrible but some were ok, I think it was a Bentley that surprisingly made a good off roader. The Viper conversion does look good.

I know the Viper is happening next (and it's objectively the correct choice) - but don't discount the Goldwing camper trike. There are Goldwing tow trucks in Japan that can lane-split through traffic, unfold a car dolly from the back, and tow away a disabled passenger car to a safe location. Those bikes can do more than you think.

I'm one of the guys screaming at the screen to finish all the projects you already have. I'd love to see your Mk VI Jaguar get finished. For new projects I like the trailer trike, but you'll need more torque than a Goldwing engine has. Even small trailers can be quite heavy, so I'd go with a low powered Tesla model S drive unit powered by 16 Model S battery modules.

Here in Florida, the "offroad sports car" thing is not uncommon. Although they usually take a car body and plop it on top of a 4x4 truck chassis.

I think you should combine the Hell and Country and the Viper to make an off-road minivan with a bunch of power. If the only thing cooler than a Viper is an off-road viper, then a step up from a minivan with a bunch of power is... an offroad minivan with a bunch of power!

The Bronco is wider for a reason. We you add that much more performance into a thin wheelbase, you are 99% guaranteed to roll it over.

You really are an engineer, how do you finish the projects you already have? By starting a new project that will require lots of planning and cadding which will make you want to get up and stretch and do anything that is not in from of a computer. Brilliant. It’s like if you give a mouse a cookie…

Why not construct a superlight motorcycle powered rear wheel drive rock crawler/off road buggy/ onroad racer. Use motorcycle tires for rock crawler mode and downsize wheels to suit other uses. Make the control arms on both front and rear as long as possible for lots of travel. Use a front wheel drive car rear uprights/brakes, drive shafts and diff centre of the viscous variety for the rear drive train. if you have to have an electric part to the build use electric motor for front wheel drive (and reverse?) Colin Chapman was into car offroad "trials" and from this point developed the Lotus 7. It it wont comply with licensing requirements make it small enough to fit in a ute - I mean pick up. Add lightness of course.

XK120, Prius, or just finish your projects. I'd rather modernize the viper. Better suspension, brakes (add abs to it), heads and cam package, exhaust, radiators.

Honestly the Turbine Charger is the coolest one here. Considering Chrysler experimented with turbine engines in production cars for a long time, including putting a turbine engine into a Charger B-body, I think bringing the idea full circle would be amazing.

700 HP minivan sounds a lot like the Renault Espace F1. But ever since my kid put a disassembled toy Ferrari F40 body on top of an off road chassis I've thought that's the best idea for a car build ever. The Viper would do just fine.

I'm torn between an off-road viper and the Model T build. Both are feasible, road friendly, and cool. Another neat spin might be AWD Tesla powered Model T sleeper. Heck, maybe even use the old 4cyl to power a generator for a hybrid set up. Regardless, I really enjoy your projects and leaning from them.

A Mad-lib type of contest would be cool. "Matt should build a: (Turbine Hayabusa 700-horsepower) powered (Trike Camper Prius) that (Floats Off-roads will kill him) and (Violates trademark Tastes good will get the viewers mad)". Just circle one or more from each group.
